LG Announces the 32QK500-W 32" IPS Monitor - QHD, FreeSync, 8 ms

LG has announced another bang-for-buck entry in their monitor line-up, which is usually one of the best in the specs-pricing department. For the modest amount of $349, the 32QK500-W is a 31,5" affair with a QHD (2560*1440) resolution, which supports AMD's FreeSync technology for synchronized refresh rates and greater fluidity in gaming. There's an 8-bit + FRC IPS panel, with a minimum 250 cd/m² brightness (300 typical), which isn't much, but should be enough to be used in a not-too-bright room.

Of course, some of the panel's specifications do point towards the cost-cutting that needed to be done in order to get it to this price-point; the brightness isn't anything to go by (not even close), the FreeSync support tops out at a maximum of 75 Hz, and the 8 ms response time is enough for casual gaming, but not for cutthroat competitive gaming. Some LG technologies such as Black Stabilizer, Crosshairs, and Reading Mode are available. Output connectors stand at 2x HDMI, 1x DisplayPort, and 1x MiniDP, with an additional headphone jack. The monitor is VESA wall-mountable.

IIRC the requirement for LFC to work was reduced from 2.5x to 2x base refresh rate (though I might be wrong here), which would require a FS base refresh rate of ~37.5Hz (likely rounded down to 35 for ease of implementation) for this 75Hz panel. Even with the 2.5x requirement, that's only 30Hz, which should be doable if the controller is halfway decent (most displays have native 24Hz modes, after all). Still, LFC is still somewhat of a """premium""" feature given that it's easier to implement on high refresh rate panels. I guess we'll see in reviews?

Considering that 27"-equivalent vertical height ultrawide panels are 34-35", an ultrawide version of this would be... 40-42"? That's rather large, and I doubt the already low pixel density will look any better in an ultrawide version. Might be for you, but I'd much rather see cheaper 34-35" 1440p ultrawides first.

Yeah, I have that and it's pretty solid. The FreeSync range is only 40Hz to 75Hz, but for that price you can't do better.

Mine is 48-75Hz but there is nothing that LG has, that is worth the extra 100$, maybe only availability on certain markets.

It is indeed 48-75Hz by default, but get https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-Custom-Resolution-Utility-CRU and you can easily extend the range by almost 30%. Got mine as low as 38, however anything lower would result in occasional black frames. Your success might differ slightly based on the panel lottery, but I'd say 40-75Hz is safe and pretty much guaranteed.
