Tearing while gaming on Nvidia 9400 GT! Please help me!

Hi all!

I am experiencing tearing while I am playing NBA 2K12 on my old PC!

Its GPU is Nvidia Gigabyte 9400 GT 1 GB GDDR2,and I haven't used it for years,but a few days ago I cleaned it especially its cooler,reapplyied the thermal paste and its temps are perfect while idling and gaming too.

Its video drivers are the latest for it, v.342.01. (Win 10 64 bit)

The GPU was fabrically OC,but I made an additional OC to 733 MHz Core Clock and 515 MHz for the Memory Clock.

I have tried enabling and disabling VSync, but it haven't helped at all so far!

I am experiencing the tearing even while playing at 60 FPS.

My monitor is a 19 inch HD LCD LG W1943SB with a 60 Hz refresh rate.

Please help me to fix this issue!

Tearing only happens when vsync is off. Even though you've turned it on, it may not actually be functioning with a particular game. I've had this problem with Unreal Tournament 2004 on Windows 10 for years, for example and there's no fix as far as I can see.

Run a framerate utility like Fraps to check that it's synced, or the games fps counter, if it has one. Also, check the in-game settings and driver 3D settings/game profiles. If the framerate reported by Fraps is below the 60Hz refresh of the monitor, use a low resolution such as 1024x768 and lower details to push up the framerate. Fraps should show a steady 60fps if vsync is on. It'll go higher than 60fps if not.

Does this happen with any other games?

I am using MSI Afterburner and RTSS,they are showing me the FPS,and as I said I am experiencing the tearing at 60 FPS,and my monitor refresh rate is 60 Hz.

Edit:I don't experience tearing while playing Arma 2 ,even at 30 FPS.

What graphics card did you have before? Did you do a clean driver install with DDU?

I had the same graphics card,but I haven't used that PC for years!
And I installed a fresh copy of Win 10 x64 and installed the latest drivers.

Make sure that all your correct chipset drivers for your motherboard is installed. If that still doesnt work than use DDU and reinstall an older driver to see if that fixes the issue. thats really the only thing i can think of apart from getting a new graphics card.

What do you think about installing Win 7 (dual booting with Win 10) ?

You have nothing to lose really. the 9400GT is an old card. Probably better support for it on Windows 7 than 10

Card is already 3-4 yo when 2k12 came out.

August 2008 according to Wikipedia. It's practically a die-shrinked and overclocked 8500GT which was slow even in 2008.

Seems an awful lot of work for a game.

Rather go into NVCP and check the Vertical Synchronisation setting in the manage 3D settings tab. Force it to Vsync. Then check the game setting, and set Vsync wherever you can.

Windows 10 can run old games just fine. You can also try using compatibility options. Hell, I run Diablo 2 on 10 and didn't even need those. But still worth trying several options there before an OS change. Right mouse on game icon > Properties > Compatiblity:

*I have yet to run into a single game that would not run on 10, but did run on 7. Across a library of over 80+ older games.
