i just bought a steam bargain for £8 quid.. three crysis games including crysis 2..

"will it play crysis" it seems my 8700K cpu 2080ti machine wont play the original crysis.. at least not without some serious messing about..

it was as laggy as hell basically unplayable.. putting out 140 fps but as laggy as hell..

it seems crysis back in the day was never expected to produce much more than 30 fps.. its totally single threaded.. it seems my 8700K at 4.8 gig aint up to the job of powering crysis at 140 fps..

i have got it going by running my 2080ti card at 50% power and frame capping it at 60 fps.. for a 2007 game its remarkably pretty even by todays standards and at the current steam price its well worth a buy..

odd though that a 2007 game is totally cpu bound with a 8700K cpu.. it would probably be okay with a lesser gpu but it cant keep up with a 2080ti.. this is the first time i have ever seen a cpu bound game.. it took me a while to figure out what was going on but that was what it was..

Really im tempted to try now!

Crysis rocks ! What a game !
About the graphics, it was PC Only and the CryEngine advertising, it explains a lot.
Crysis 2 was not aimed at PC Only and you can see it :D
Crysis Warhead is my favorite !
Crysis 3 is a good one too.
I got an Origin Access sub I think I will do them again this week-end thank you ! (War Head is not in Access  )
I don't remember I had issues when I launched it like around 1 year ago with with the 6700K & 1080Ti at 100Fps+ weird Vsync Off ingame, adaptative in the nVidia control panel.
I will have to launch it again to see

If you don't fear Origin, the 3 Crysis are included in the Access Basic sub (https://www.origin.com/irl/en-us/store/browse?fq=franchise:crysis,subscriptionGroup:vault-games) which is not expensive at all, a lot of good games with them.

Well crap, now I went and bought it

you get the original crysis.. crisis warhead and crysis 2 for £8 from steam.. a super bargain i recon..

have been playing crysis 3.. nearly finished it..

Weird. Just played mine with overclocked 2080Ti and it was butter smooth. My upload speed sucks though.

oh I wont sub to anything Origin, but I do have crysis 3 on origin. I just wanted to test crysis 1 I bought it on disk a million years ago.

same I didnt want to find my disks.

got crysis
warhead
crysis wars

for like $8 or something.

bad trog!

i got crysis wars as well but its multiplayer only i recon that died off years ago so i dont think its much use but i could be wrong.. still hell of deal though however you look at it..

i played the original crysis years ago but with everything cranked up a bigger screen and decent frame rates its a whole new experience..

Crysis and crysis 2 are 9
Warhead is 9&10

Are you sure? Ive finished Crysis any yrs ago and I thought it also had both DX9 and 10 that 10 was bad that the end boss fight you would fall through the ship alot.

Could be, I was just going by what the steam specs say.

I think your right, Im pretty sure they had a patch for this 1.2 or something.

Crysis 1 and warhead are dx9 and dx10 since v1.0. Crysis 1 was marketing stunt for dx10 features.
All Crysis games on steam and origin work exactly the same, once installed you do not even services to be running in background, at least for c1 and warhead. Recently i was doing a benchmark with crysis 1 and had no issues at all:

My nephew is playing crysis 1, warhead and 2 from steam, crysis 3 from origin, i play whole series from origin, with both versions never neither of us had any issues.

Runs great for me too. Everything maxed, motion blur off, 3440X1440. I had about 15 screenshots, I thought, pressing the wrong key lol

I bought the whole package as well, $11 CDN.

Crysis 1 without Warhead has DX10. I got it from GoG and completed the far more difficult challenge: Get it to run on contemporary hardware :D

Of course I used very high settings in 1080p with 8x AA. Well I did not get a 60 fps average but around 45 fps average is decent I would say for 2008ish parts, min. fps 30.

Can´t really record video on that system, the poor X5470 is busy enough with the game itself and I don´t have a capture card.

Specs:
CPU Xeon X5470 @ 4.26 GHz (I went higher by now, maybe I should re-test it)
GPUs 2x GTX295 in quad-SLI (no OC here at that time, got them clocked higher now too)
8GB DDR2
Board XFX 780i SLI

with crysis one my own experience was total lag.. i stood on the beach with few a bolders and the ocean on screen.. swiping the mouse from side to side just produced a jerky movement this was with around 140 fps showing..

i tried lots of things.. lowering the settings and anything i could think of.. nothing stopped the jerkiness.. i did a bit of googling and found a few things out..

i then slowed my 2080ti card down as much as i could and framed capped it to 60 fps.. the frame capping dosnt seem to work that well if the fps is too high in the first place..

ether way.. i now have a smooth running very pretty crisis one at 60 fps.. my conclusion was that my 8700k running just a single thread could not keep up with crysis at 140 plus frames per second.. crysis was dreamed up back in the single thread P4 days and graphics cards that couldnt really handle it..

my 2080ti card is now running at a max power setting of 50%.. half power in essence.. it was the only way i could get crysis one to run smoothly.. my 8700k running just a single thread can manage crysisi at 60 fps but not 140 fps..

Nice deal for Crysis + Warhead + Crysis 2 indeed. In France it's 9,99€.
Clearly those who have never done Crysis (or those who lost it somewhere in a pile of old disks :D ) it's a pretty good game.
The 3rd is amazing too but no (yet ?) on Steam.

I thing your rig have some issues, tried to put or remove Vsync in the nvidia control panel ? I was playing it with a Core2Duo E6600 (and no c2D on my nick doesn't mean this at all and is older  ) and recent CPU work great too.
Is CPU-Z reporting Link Width x16 in Mainboard ? I had a old bug with an old MB where the bios fucked up and the Link was at x4 for obscure bug reason, had to clearMOS, update again...
What you are experiencing is not normal :D

Oh maybe the sound ! It appears there are CPU glitches made by the sound options in some games.
Try to put your sound at 16bits, 44100Hz in Windows and try, then if it's working good, higher and try again. It could be 24Bits @ 192000Hz is killing the CPU in Crysis I don't really know.

auto plays in DX10 mode.

Yes, had to quit Windows XP to go to Seven to be able to enjoy the DX10 light in the game I remember

I recently played Crysis and it played DX 10 just fine until the battle on the carrier... From there I put it on DX9 and it was fine again...

All this Crysis talk makes me wanna replay STALKER now. "Proper" DX10.1 support lol.
