I just bought a new cooler, a Noctua NH-U12A (7 heatpipes, 2 fans).

With 19 degrees C ambient the CPU temp runs up to 66 degrees C.
(I know this temp is completely fine but during summer I can add another 9-10 degrees which would result in +-77 degrees C load...)

My i7 6700K is just slightly overclocked @ 4.3GHz all cores @ 1.170V in the BIOS which results in 1.184V on load.

When I installed the cooler I used the spread method which I always used, I have reseated the cooler and did the one dot method, temps didn't differ compared to the spread method.

I'm slightly dissapointed in the temps I'm seeing with this 99 EUR cooler.

There are some reviews out there but these reviews aren't very useful, so I can't really compare:
https://noctua.at/en/nh-u12a?review=1&c=91#review1

I'd like to know what CPU temps (afterburner OSD) other people see with this game, I know GTA V is CPU intensive but with this cooler I expected temps below 60C with just 19 degrees C ambient.

Your issue is because it isn’t delidded. It’s not the cooler letting you down, it’s Intel.

As a matter of fact... that reminds me of something I need to look into...

If you’re in the US, I can delid the chip for you, but you’ll have to send it to me.

Under 80C during load? It is fine.

Just change the fan maybe.

It has two NF-A12x25. You don't get much better than that for the noise (or lack of that) they generate. OP check the RPM.

Ive told you before you worry way too much about temps. Under 70 C on air is fantastic. Under 80 C worst case is quite the same.

I would consider 80-85C a hard cap for good comfort. That will keep the cpu in safe ranges even on a hot (+10C) day.

There is no meaningful degradation at these temps. You never run a CPU at max load for a long time, most of it is idle time. It will be obsolete long before it degrades.

Then obviously they are not running on max.

What TIM? Note some take several days and multiple heatup/cool down cycles to reach optimal cooling efficiency. While this is typically 2 - 3°C improvement, I have seen up to 5°C. Some TIMs take up to 200 hours to reach maximum efficiency. If the Grizzly Kryonaut shown in your specs, then curing time is not an issue.

And there's nothing wrong with that! Don't let anyone try to convince you you need alternative cooling. You don't.

What about your case cooling? Remember it is the case's responsibility to provide a sufficient supply of cool air flowing through the case. The CPU cooler need only toss the CPU's heat into that flow. You typically want front-to-back flow through the case.

What are your other temps? If on the high side too, that is a sure indication you need better case cooling and may need to look at adding another fan. Look at your cable management too. And this probably goes without saying, but make sure the interior is clean of heat-trapping dust.

LOL Did I accuse you of something? NO.

It was aimed at me, i was the only one who mentioned a different cooler, then you said "Don't let anyone try to convince you you need alternative cooling" just coincidence i guess.

I don't think that there is a one to one relationship between ambient and CPU temp.

So, listen to the choir:
You're running a hot CPU
You're in a case with fairly restrictive airflow (maybe add one more intake fan to the bottom)
You're expected max temp is under 80°C

YOU'RE FINE!

I’m telling you... delid is your only option.

Yep, the heat can only get up to the cooler so fast, so a beefier cooler sometimes doesn't help.

You're expected max temp is under 80°C

YOU'RE FINE!

Not to mention, I believe, they moved the sensors on the more modern chips to a hotter part of the die, and consequently raised the TJMax to 100°C. So even if you're hitting 80°C, you still have 20° before you hit TJMax, which is plenty.

Paste is gonna take a few days to firm up.

Then you get better temps.

Also, I always spread it out over whole IHS.
I never do any of that other spread nonsense.

6700k run hot anyway. You just have to accept it. Mine ran hotter than this oc'd was close to 85c loaded, but who cares if TJMax is 100c. Just get the hot air from the cooler out of the case as best you can.

No, it was aimed at P4-630. If I meant to aim it at you, I would have said, "don't let tigger try to convince you...".

You really need to get some tougher skin and stop taking comments that differ from yours as personal attacks when they definitely are not.

Depends on which TIM. His system specs says Grizzly Kryonaut. It does not need need time to cure.
Also, I always spread it out over whole IHS.
I do too - as thin as possible while still ensuring thorough coverage. I don't depend on pressure from the heatsink clamping mechanism to distribute it evenly or thoroughly over the die.

I ran my 6700K at low 90's for forever it's still in a friend's rig somewhere.

What cooler did you have prior and what temps?

I have the U12s on my OC 8600k and it holds my CPU under 60c while gaming using the Noctua paste. Perhaps the U14s would serve you better, if your case can handle its height, or try just using one fan instead of two.

I swapped one noctua 120mm fan of the CPU cooler for a 140mm(120mm mounting) and installed the noctua 120mm at the bottom of the case for intake.

It has two NF-A12x25.
Yes, they didn't run at full speed, correct.

I'm using the "standard" fan profile in the BIOS, I have 3 intake fans now and 2 exhaust fans.

I leave it at that, not too much noise and temps still below 80 during summer hopefully.

Thanks.

Shall we start an office pool? I'll take 5°C, that is, I don't think it'll go more than 5°C higher during the hottest days.
