Or the result of parents linking their CC to games and allowing children to play unsupervised.
Just recently a family I know got $600 refunded after their 6Y.O. wracked up that much on their card in purchases thinking he was getting all this free stuff in the game.
that happens more often then what we see or hear about.

PEGI/ESRB is for parent guidelines, parents need to be parents again.

I owned Streets of Rage 1 and other violent games before the age of 12 and I am ok because of morality that we don't go around bashing skulls in or shooting people for fun. Parents need to be parents again, not let phones be pacifiers and parents not being childrens friends but parents.

Some legislation would help a little but really it's up to the parents at the end of the day. I work in administration for a school system and it amazes me to hear from teachers that parents blamed them for their little children not making good grades when parents wouldn't even make them do their homework and take it in to school or study for tests. The children spend too many hours playing addictive video games. The inner city schools are the worst. A teacher can't just pop the top on a student and pour in knowledge. Parents have to make their children understand the importance of school. You can't even get a decent job without a minimum of a high school degree.

Been there done that, I'm back in School for a career move, a revisit of Aircraft Repair that I did in the military from 2005-2010, however in Civilian sector (Veteran). A&P License

Yeah, we wouldn't want you mistakenly installing a Hellfire or a Paveway on that 737 now, would we? ;)

That's like saying it's the parents responsibility to regulate the sale of tobacco and alcohol. Nope, some things need government regulation.

Physical substances for harm

Yup but kids shouldnt be using credit cards anyway.

I agree, this is a couple layers deep.

1) If it's already a game beyond their age. The law didn't work.
2) If it's a game beyond their age and the parents are OK with it, the law didn't work.
3) If they don't have permission to use the parents Credit card, there are laws against this, so the laws didn't work.
4) If they are using their credit cards with the parents permission and are yet under 18, still illegal, the laws still failed.

I don't get how people can think, oh shit.... People are doing things and breaking laws, let's make more laws.... Cause they obviously work.

People play stupid games, and win stupid prizes. Making stupidity illegal isn't an option, you just have to step back and hope they learn.

I've seen a adult blatantly buying a 18 rated game for her son as he was unable to buy it, so depending on the parent, ratings mean zilch.

Its for Parental guidance, some parents are actually parents, others are bad parents.

If there were more laws on games I don't see how they would be enforced. A kid could set up an account on Steam with his Mom's name, age etc and use the credit card. All the info is on the card. I suppose if the kid's Mom reported the charges to Steam that her son was illegally using her credit card then Steam could report it to whatever government agency was responsible for handling the new laws but who would they fine. The way it is now credit cards are easy to use and how would Steam know that it happened. It would appear to them as a legitimate transaction. Besides a lot of people don't even check their credit card bill. They just pay the bill. As long as it was a little at a time they might never even know about what the son was doing.

There's too much government in America right now hence the deficit spending and the 21 trillion dollar debt.

Kids can be harmed precisely because they don't use a credit card when other player win again and again without investing nearly as much time. But really, this is better left to psychologists and other people in the know, not something that should be settled on a random internet forum.

Ah, but the whole point isn't to prevent kids from using their parents money, it's to protect kids/parents from devs/publishers who have already shown a complete lack of good judgement and ethics from inappropriate business models and distribution methodologies. The proposed regulations will have little actual affect on kids/parents ability to buy/play games, they will control the way games/content will be marketed and distributed.

I think loot boxes are a bad thing if they are necessary or making the game a total grindfest without them. If in a game you buy loot boxes and have some random chance of getting something rare and being able to sell the item for actual cash then that is gambling imo.

I don't ever buy microtransactions and not very much DLC either. Most of it is subpar.

The thing is, if look at how many good people lost their lives fighting drug trafficking, you actually start to question whether it wouldn't be simpler to make them legal and let the problem solve itself.

Easy to say when you're not the country suffering its production, only its consumption.
This is not a drug thread.

1. I am aware I was off topic.
2. In no way did I say that with an easy heart.
3. Drug production is only a symptom of other problems (e.g. poverty) in the respective countries. Their suffering is elsewhere.

This 3rd is wrong. Drugs are no different than other addictive substances that should be under controlled distribution.
The side effects are the problem. Usually, the direct or indirect spiro-depressant effect is the hazard. People aren't pharmacologists, they can't be held responsible for their own prescriptions and there are no obvious laboratory tests measuring dopaminergic tonus that I know of. There are clinical tests but still, as the drive and pause signal magnitudes increase and pulse periods are shorter you get a race condition between opposing signals, so the signal polarity reverses. It is what tolerance does to addicts.
