Nice.

Hopefully this setup will also be used to test coolers as well. It would be nice to see a soldered CPU used again.

I'm not reviewing coolers, that's @crazyeyesreaper. But we'll look into updates for the CPU cooler rig in H2 2019, after Zen 2 launch

That Civilization VI seems drastically modifiying the GPU rankings. Simply a Radeon VII under-around GTX 1070 is unreal compared to general performance.

Interesting... what the heck is going on, it's DX12

Edit: meh, looks like I've benched it in DX11 by mistake.

Edit 2: Civ performance has always been pretty bad on AMD, chart below from the Radeon VII review

what now?

@W1zzard, any chance of AMD rig too, side by side, if Ryzen 3000 happens to be competitive in gaming with i9?

Impossible, no way. It would be like doing two separate reviews for one card, which isn't possible given today's review embargos

why remove Deus Ex but not the Witcher 3? as far as I know Deus Ex looks better and is more demanding on the GPU than the Witcher 3.
Witcher 3 is on CDPR's own REDEngine 3. Cyberpunk 2077 will be REDEngine 4 that will likely take Witcher 3's place in benchmarking.
Deus Ex Mankind Divided is on Dawn Engine which is modified Glacier Engine II - the same one that powers Hitman games, currently Hitman 2.

The full list of games is now: Ace Combat 7, Anno 1800, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Battlefield V, Civilization VI, Darksiders 3, Devil May Cry 5, Divinity Original Sin 2, F1 2018, Far Cry 5, Hitman 2, Metro Exodus, Monster Hunter World, Rage 2, Rainbow Six Siege, Sekiro, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of War, Strange Brigade, Witcher 3, and Wolfenstein 2.
While we are at it, why not:
Ace Combat 7 - Unreal Engine 4
Anno 1800 - Anno Engine (?)
Assassin's Creed Odyssey - AnvilNext 2.0
Battlefield V - Frostbite 4
Civilization VI - Firaxis Engine (?)
Darksiders 3 - Unreal Engine 4
Devil May Cry 5 - RE Engine
Divinity Original Sin 2 - Divinity Engine 2
F1 2018 - EGO Engine 3.0
Far Cry 5 - Dunia 2
Hitman 2 - Glacier Engine II
Metro Exodus - 4A Engine
Monster Hunter World - MT Framework 2.x
Rage 2 - Apex Engine
Rainbow Six Siege - AnvilNext 2.0
Sekiro - PhyreEngine (?)
Shadow of the Tomb Raider - Foundation Engine
Shadow of War - LithTech Firebird
Strange Brigade - Asura Engine
Witcher 3 - REDEngine 3
Wolfenstein 2 - idTech 6

Welp missing Cryengine/lumberjack and unity engine games. Not that there are recent AAA on either.

Some measure of minimum frametimes would be welcome, but it's not crucial to comparing general performance. Especially with variable refresh and the greater focus on minimum frametimes ever since TechReport and others have focused on it.

I would love for there to be a part of the overclocking page on new cards to cover auto overclocks alongside manual overclocks. I have lost my nerve for dialing in GPU overclocks that are stable over all games, and it would be a nice datapoint in the same vein as the max manual overclock for the sample.

Correct. This article shows only the summary

But you must have the results in order to calculate the summary? So why not show the results? Are they coming or will they be visiable on the next GPU review?

I have them of course, didn't want to put them all here, it's A LOT of data

So I did a quick retest of Civ with DX12 enabled, and both R7 and 2080 Ti lose a lot of performance, but the relative difference seems similar, so no improvement for AMD. Do I remove Civ now, cherry picking for AMD? Or do I keep it? With DX11 or spend a few hours to rebench all cards on DX12 with essentially identical results?

Two things..

Witcher 3 - game thats never too old (ofc I know why, just its kinda funny)

eVGA - yay! never thought I will see this one as regular bench machine, very nice choice

Vega 64 has 2070 performance in some games.

Actually have Vega 64 (1650MHz@1.05V) and its pretty fine graphic card. I quite dont understand why most manufacturers overvolt it as hell, since it can run on very low volts with very nice efficiency. My Titan Xp is literally eating grass next to road while at 1V, while Vega 64 seems pretty chill (quite literally). Guess difference in chip design (size most likely).

IMHO, Vega 64 isnt bad, but performance isnt really Titan Xp level. :D Like not even close. But I must give it, runs nicely and sorta "smooth". Thats if you play around with powertables and spend quite a few hours in getting it "right" (yea and now there are subtimings released for memory, which is another rabbit hole of fun).

I miss powerplay tables on nVidia. I really want to say GPU "and now you go balls to wall cause I say so" or "chill-n-netflix". And I cant, cause nVidia has mind of its own. Not liking that part, really not.

Why don't you add World War Z? Swarm Engine supports DX11 and Vulkan.

If Deus Ex Mankind Divided was dropped because it was "too old" even though it was DX12, I'd say the same for Civ VI.

It was, but then the nVidia drivers for Turing did mature.
The performance gap between Turing and GCN / Pascal widens in many cases.
On launch the 2080 was often slower than 1080ti as well, but as time went on it pulled further and further ahead of the 1080ti.
Especially in DX12 / Vulkan titles due to Turing having proper support for Async-Compute and etc.
Moreover Turing has geometry performance advantage over Pascal as well.

In the recent testing I've seen, it usually is. It seems like W1zzard is using a very under-performing, blower-style, reference Vega 64 because results from the likes of Hardware Unboxed and Gamers Nexus usually do not align with what we see here on TPU (i.e., overall, Vega 64 generally matches and often exceeds the performance of the GTX 1080 and RTX 2070, let alone the RTX 2060). Of course, admittedly, I believe that both of the aforementioned tech sites/channels are using factory overclocked cards with much better cooling solutions.

Drop Civ VI. Benchmark results from it are simply too unstable.

Actually have Vega 64 (1650MHz@1.05V) and its pretty fine graphic card. I quite dont understand why most manufacturers overvolt it as hell, since it can run on very low volts with very nice efficiency.
Counterpoint - I had a Vega64. It was having serious trouble reaching the spec 1546MHz boost clock. When overclocked and undervolted, I still could not get 1600MHz out of it no matter what I did. It was not power limit and higher voltages simply did not help. And that was at 300+W power consumption. Blower, but for testing I ran it at 100% which did take care of temperatures. It was nice and efficient at low voltages but it was never fast at the same time. I suppose there would be a way to get it a little higher today with what we have learned but that took months or close to a year to mature.

This seems to be why Vegas are overvolted - the variability is huge. For every nice one that can do 1700MHz under water and extreme tuning there is a dud like mine apparently was.

Ghost Recon Wildlands: Too old ? game released in 2017.
Witcher 3 is an epic game but its too old now, released in 2015.
Ghost Recon Wildlands runs on Ubisoft's AnvilNext 2.0 that is already represented with 2 other games. AnvilNext 2.0 variability is rather large compared to other engines but the engine is not significant enough to warrant too many games with it in the lineup.
