Seasonic showed us a unique new innovation that could change the way you manage your cable clutter, particularly python-wrestling with your 24-pin cable behind the motherboard tray. Called simply the Seasonic Connect, the accessory is a PSU connection hub, or a disintegration of a conventional modular PSU's connector back-plane. A ruler-shaped structure runs behind your case's motherboard tray, with your PSU's various connectors (ATX, EPS, PCIe, SATA), on its either sides. Shorter-than-usual modular cables handle the "last-mile" connection to the various devices. A single ribbon cable runs between the Connect and the PSU, with high-capacity wires for the various voltage domains (+12V, 3.3V, 5V, etc.). Those into PSU cable modding would be breathing very heavily. The upcoming Prime GX750, an upper-mid range model with 80 Plus Gold chops, could be the first to implement this concept.

I cannot imagine how that will not lead to you trying to tuck away cables that all of a sudden are longer than necessary.

I remember when this was first teased (last year was it?) that the concern was where do the long cables go from here, maybe in conjunction with some clever custom kits this could be amazing

I had to double take the images, I thought they were all 'Before' shots, looks like a complete mess back there. Spending a little time on cable management will result in your system looking way better than that.

Well, this is interesting. I don't know about everyone else here, but I make a cussing storm every time I have to do anything with cables. Modular PSUs were a blessing from the heavens, but is not enough when there are too many things connected inside the case.

The included cables are short.

The included cables are short.

Well in that case, I think it could be beautiful in a case where there's a glass panel on the cable side.
But surprisingly, the cable management pictured in the article isn't impressive.

I could do better without that device lol.

If you look carefully... it is not a simple adapter. It includes inductors, load of solid state caps and I see also a heatsink.

It could be that minor voltages could be remade there tho fight the introduced voltage drop. It looks really expensive!

And remember people... the more things we own the more problems we have.

I think we need to first have a look at the front and then see what behind. if that case is pack with drives and stuff it might give a better impression. Short cable are nice but honestly to make this really something gravitate to I'd want to have a selection of cables and lengths that I could further purchase. Such cable are able to work with both this system and regular modular PSU. Sure I been know to cut and shorten/lengthen cables or switch a connector to make what I need, but a lot of folk are more faint of heart in considering that.

No extra part really, they just took the modular connector row PCB out of the PSU case and put it into the separate housing with a glowing Seasonic logo and put adhesive Velcro on the back.

If you are putting this into a case where cable management is questionable, it could be a great. On the other hand anybody who buys a 80Plus Gold Seasonic PSU probably won't be installing it into a 30USD case...

Interesting product. I like where this is going, but it's not there yet. Perhaps this type of feature needs to be integrated into the chassis, rather than an extension of the power supply? Horrible display model example, considering this was it's debut.

This seems like one of those situations where everyone in the room knows the idea is bad, but no one wants to be the guy who speaks up. That's how this got released to the masses...

Yeah....they did a terrible job. It's actually shocking they'd show that off.

It's just the back of the mobo. Not an issue if you don't have a glass panel on the back.
The real question is what does the front look like? Somehow, somebody thought the best way to showcase this was not to show the front :wtf:

Interesting concept, I wonder if it's an improvement over the current modular cables...

Interesting. I assume it will be sold only with those specific PSUs that have the accompanying short cables, so that this doesn't just lead to having a pile of cables to try to tuck away. And a Seasonic high-end PSU plus this cable system feels like it will be on the pricey end. I like the window-facing (so the visible) side to look good, and I keep my cables very clean going into the back. But behind the board isn't ever seen outside of the install, so it's hard for me to lose a lot of sleep if cables tucked behind a board that no one can see aren't super-organized.

obviously not something for smaller cases, those with not much room to begin with. Placement could restrict some air flow.
