AMD is on the verge of launching its 3rd generation Ryzen "Matisse" processors that are widely expected to take the performance crown from Intel. At its Computex 2019 reveal, AMD CEO Dr Lisa Su claimed that these processors beat the competition in all areas, including gaming. Motherboard manufacturers threw their weight behind AMD by pulling out their most premium brands for the AMD "Valhalla" desktop platform that consists of these processors, mated with an AMD X570 chipset motherboard. Ahead of its E3 2019 keynote Monday afternoon, Intel has come out with a challenge. Chipzilla dares AMD to beat it in "real-world gaming."

At its "gaming performance for the real world" address in Los Angeles Jon Carvill, VP of marketing, challenged AMD to beat it in real world gaming with its upcoming processors. "So you're going to hear a lot about gaming CPUs this week," he began. "They may or may not come from certain three letter acronyms. That said, here's what I want to challenge you. I want to challenge you to challenge them. If they want this crown come beat us in in real world gaming, real world gaming should be the defining criteria that we use to assess the world's best gaming CPU. I challenge you to challenge anyone that wants to compete for this crown to come meet us in real world gaming. That's the measure that we're going to stand by."

AMD's latest stab at Intel is the "Zen 2" microarchitecture at the heart of the new Ryzen 9 3900X 12-core/24-thread processor, leading a gaming-focused processor lineup that also includes the Ryzen 7 8-core/16-thread, and Ryzen 5 3600X 6-core/12-thread. These processors feature a 10% increase in clock-speeds, and a whopping 15 percent increase in IPC over the current "Zen+" The processors, when combined with motherboards based on the AMD X570 chipset, also put out a total of 40 PCI-Express gen 4.0 lanes. Unlike previous generations, much of AMD's engineering effort has been focused on shoring up gaming performance. The company is explicitly marketing these processors as "Gaming CPUs." The processors launch on the 7th of July.

I find it funny that its Ryan Shrout. If things are this bad, Intel never had to defend itself or had to justify itself before. Imagine when Kyle Bennett joins in the PR.

Also the recent update Intel made to their benchmark disclosure after Computex on their site covering all benchmarks.

Intel said:
Benchmark results were obtained prior to implementation of recent software patches and firmware updates intended to address exploits referred to as "Spectre" and "Meltdown". Implementation of these updates may make these results inapplicable to your device or system. For more complete information click here.

What about 4k60?
Where do 'real gamers' draw the line?

Hell i just started gaming on my VR rig on my 4k TV last night with my ryzen 1400 and forgot it was at stock clocks after a BIOS update, and didnt frigging notice.

PS: That shady move to drop most MDS-patches just the day after Ryzen 3xxx will be released is so damn obnoxious by Intel, it's despicable …

It probably would be single digit percentage pre-patches but post-patches I think AMD will handily win.

I don't expect AMD to win but if they keep getting closer and closer, AMD looks better. Intel by try'n to call them out will just bring more attention to AMDs already solidified value position.

I just find it all silly because Intel is calling on people to challenge them
I want to challenge you to challenge them

Like hiding behind a buffer in case things don't go your way.

Steve will tell us all on the 7th if AMD is indeed the new gaming CPU king, if not it still be the better choice because of price/performance anyway, so really its a win win regardless what happens.

If Zen 2 does rival or beat them in gaming, AMD and Lisa would put out big charts that shows it as such. Not some idiotic PubG side-by-side gaming comparisons masked by huge pictures of Cinebench.

oooh looks like Intel isn't backing down on AMD's "threat". Good to see them starting to panic & responding to their competitors.

you can call any cpu gaming and find a scenario where 2950x beats 9900K like OC Odyssey. The real question is can AMD be more consistent in gaming, something that Ryzen1/2 did not deliver .Of course Intel is gonna pick CS as a scenario, like AMD would pick a heavy multithreaded game.Let's not get excited over the usual blabber and wait for reviews.
Intel is right btw,all AMD ever shows in synthetic benchmarks to show ipc/single thread improvements, and then just slaps the gaming label on it.
You can pick any game and 8700 will be among top 5 cpus in any scenario,2700x will go back and forth between matching 8700k and losing to 8400.Amd don't need to deliver much on the multi threaded performance, but rather where 2700x missed

Even if AMD is behind by a few percent in single threaded performance Intel is going to have to lower their prices substantially to compete with a 12C/24T CPU for $500...

They might beat AMD in gaming performance but who really cares about three or four FPS? Besides, gaming performance is a stupid metric for CPU performance.

The only thing going for big blue on the current desktop / gaming market is their gaming performance and with all the recent security patches in place that might be dangling on a thin thread. If the performance slides are anything to go by AMD had pretty much caught up.

If the VRM designs is anything to go by on X570 boards, even OC headroom might be there this time around. Mr. Carvill should be careful what he wishes for... it might come true.

Game on, intel! Game on!

Even if somhow intel manages to beat AMD systems by 1-2% I will happily live wth that 'loss', knowing I didn't put my money with these greedy, dishonest baboons.

CPU bound games like strategy ones should be representative for the tests. And I don't mean at 1080p. 2K or 3K resolutions is where the focus should be.
