Yes, that's why RX470, 480, 570 and 580 were all better choices than the 1060. Mid range is the most common class for gamers. Vega 56 with the current prices is also a great choice. And it's funny to read this after NV's current gen, only the GTX 1660 and 1660Ti have reasonable price-performance ratio, while the 2070, 2080 and the 2080Ti are ridiculously priced.

Hmm this thing is going to be $500, and based on their slides comparing the 5700XT to a Vega 56, it will perform right around the RTX 2070, which is available in numerous custom flavours aready for that money or a bit less.

RTX 2080 can be had for the same money as a Radeon VII and the RTX 2080 Ti... well has no competiton, hence the silly money halo thang.

Well, first AMD must decide what their allotment 7nm wafer starts go toward Ryzen 3000 production and how much should go to Navi. From that they need to test and bin those that make the silicone lottery to provide the 1830 Gaming clock. While then you'd have to guess/judge how many intend to pay a premium. I'm sure they'll do one production run for this (silicon and gold trim) and call it done. The remaining chips will get to go to AIB's willing to ante up for the remaining binned parts for their special/OC'd builds. I'd put number of say 2500-5000 and call it done.
You seem to misunderstand me. The news post implies speculates in limited general availability of Navi dice, not just of specially-binned, limited-edition-grade ones. That's my issue here, not whether this edition is truly limited - of course it is. It's right there in the name, after all. I doubt AMD has any issues getting enough 7nm capacity from TSMC given how promising their products look these days, Nvidia moving to Samsung, and Apple moving to 7nm+. Are there any big IC makers beyond Qualcomm left to take up fab capacity then? QC is by no means small, but there ought to be enough capacity for AMD to get what they want/need. And yes, of course there are 2-3 month lead times between ordering more wafer starts and having finished chips ready, but that's not really relevant in relation to the weird unfounded speculation in the OP.

It's every AMD gfx release. I bought a Radeon Vega FE, so I know what it's like to be burned once by AMD.
Don't get me wrong, still works great, probably last another 2 - 3 years. Just bought a second one for $300, but the original one, I think I paid over $800 in the Vega hype train.

$800 Vega? Ouch!

I don't know how reliable this site OC3D.net is but they claim AMD sent them this statement:

"Friendly reminder that just because someone writes it doesn't mean it is true....

We will be expanding AMD.com sales to more countries, so we expect the 50th anniversary edition will also be available in: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

Sorry we are not offering global availability at this point. We hear you on the desire. The team is focused on expanding into more regions/countries while making sure we can fully support customers.

Hmmm old ATI HQ is still in Markham Ontario Canada which AMD still runs. It would seem odd if this isn't available in Canada.

Yerp, I willingly bought into rajar's crap, got the Kickstarter edition to be on the bleeding edge.

At least it was a good mining card at the time.
Don’t feel bad I paid $1000 US and that was after some price drops..Norway is expensive...

I also paid in total 795€ for Vega 64 but this inluded EK water block.
But with water cooler it was nice card. For 2K monitor gaming, it did not disappoint me.
I could extract extra performance from it and while running at max 42°C. :)
I sold Vega two months ago on eBay and earned back 370€.

I went to Radeon VII which I water cool also.
Here also water cooler is needed to make it run better. :shadedshu:

Coolers have been really disappointing from AMD on recent generations of cards. On Vega 64 and Radeon VII they sounded like vacum cleaner while still not cooling card good enogh.

Let's see how good the vapor chamber cooler on 5700XT would be.

When I bought the card, ek hadn't released the block yet. I have one now.
The Vega is literally the only reason I have a water cooled pc.
I grabbed a Vega 56 for my HTPC and just bought a block at the same time.

EK and AMD, working together to put there hand in our pockets...an expensive happy ending?

Weird, for me the major disappointments from AMD have been HD 2900, RX 480, RX 580 & RX 590

How could the 580 be a disappointment? You must have had a Tahiti card before.

Agreed. The RX580 was a damn decent GPU, especially the 8GB versions.

It was, agreed. However as a "flagship" card it left users wanting. But it was very sold middle segment.

it was never meant to be a flagship. It was a replacement for the Tahiti based GPUs from the 7970 to R9290 (3 GB) and meant to be a price/performance card. It delivered vs them by giving you the same or better performance at a much lower power draw. I t also blew it's direct competitor from Nvidia (1060) out of the water. The Fury was the flagship at the time until we got Vega. Even today if I was looking for a mid range GPU I would buy the 580 before anything else (well maybe Used Vega 56 are pretty attractively priced right now).

Fully aware I'm going to sound like a broken record, but that depends greatly on how you run your games. Disabling AA improves performance greatly, turning what would otherwise be a midrange card into an excellent performer and much greater value.

I never said otherwise. But my point was more people were already hoping for a new flagship by it's release, which of course, it wasn't really.

You seem to misunderstand me. The news post implies speculates in limited general availability of Navi dice, not just of specially-binned, limited-edition-grade ones... I doubt AMD has any issues getting enough 7nm capacity from TSMC given how promising their products look these days.

Let's keep this article as "rumor and the authors speculation" not news. Now sure you/I don't have any specifics as actual TSMC 7nm wafer production and if equipment used includes 7nm+ production. But I would still think that TSMC equipment is allocated 100%, and nobody is sayings sure take my place, or actually having any openings for more wafers I'd think is a pipe-dream. Sure up to few days before the litho-process AMD/RTG can juggle what goes on a wafer, but I'm sure for the last several months it's been 85% Ryzen 3000, and the scrap's going to GPU's. Probably just in the 2 mo's have they finally built stock in the channel of CPU dies (their #1 concern) and really moved to to Navi.

I'm not so diluted not to believe Navi "stocks" won't be sucked-up, like moisture in summer at Death Valley. I'd say it will look bad in just 2-3 days and that will maintain through July. Heck I'll say all you'll see or be able to get are sticker-ed XT reference units, but if willing and ready you can get one if diligent. I can't see most AIB's having their XT versions until perhaps first of August. I honestly don't know when non-XT will see shelves and in what iterations, I heard that non-XT was AIB only, no reference designs. Best is that they (RTG) have AIB start sales of their XT versions, while AIB's where provided non-XT chips earlier to build stock and those will be more available at first weeks of August.

As I'm not planning to buy an expensive video card, I'm not too upset personally, but as I live in Canada, it's still a disturbing precedent. Actually, though, I find the rumor hard to believe in one respect. If it was the U.S. and Japan, or the U.S. and Taiwan, it would make sense. But China, at least in the sense of mainland China? That's not really a market where people have much money.
