Never heard of them myself but the brand seems to be a hit on price/performance, and storage capacity. Says on their website USA based company.

I've heard of Sabrent before, but not with SSDs. I know them for accessories like USB hubs and drive enclosures.

Oh that Sabrent. I have their USB to 3.5mm audio jacks converter. Not bad. Didn't know they make SSDs too.

Sabrent's quality can be hit or miss. They're one of those companies like Kingwin that's trying to make enough money to turn into a Startech. The whole Kia/Huyndai strategy of making crap that's too cheap to ignore and then using that money to reinvest until you're actually making quality stuff.

That being said, because of this, they generally will just send you a new one of something that's defective like the usb enclosure I got, but the design flaws were still there in the new one as well as the poor soldering, so that doesn't change.

I think most of their stuff is just rebranded cheap chinese stuff that you can get for slightly cheaper directly off aliexpress. I don't think they actually manufacture anything they sell. And that's why the quality can be hit or miss. Sometimes they get a good product from one manufacturer, but another product they are getting from a completely different manufacturer is bad.

And I bet these SSDs are the same deal. Random SSDs from China that they put their sticker on. It's likely using chips that failed QA at one of the brand name manufacturers, but is good enough for an off-brand.

You are incorrect. You should do research first before making baseless comments.

The Sabrent 1TB Rocket NVMe PCIe M. 2 2280 Internal SSD high Performance Solid state Drive (SB-ROCKET-1TB) delivers all the advantages of flash Disk technology with PCIe Gen3 x4 interface and it is fully compliant with the standard next generation form factor (NGFF), commonly known as M. 2. Based on Toshiba's BiCS 3D TLC NAND flash memory, its performance speeds can reach up to 3450 MB/s (read) and 3000 MB/s (write). power consumption is much lower than traditional hard drives, making it the best embedded solution for new systems. Features: M. 2 PCIe Gen3 x 4 interface. Pcie 3. 1 compliant/ NVMe 1. 3 compliant. Power management support for apst/ aspm/ L1. 2. Supports smart and Trim commands. Supports onfi 2. 3, onfi 3. 0, onfi 3. 2 and onfi 4. 0 interface. Advanced wear leveling, Bad Block Management, and over-provision. Package Contents: 1TB NVMe PCIe M. 2 2280 SSD.

Its the Phison E12, SK Hynix DRAM and Toshiba NAND. Same as Corsair MP510, PNY 3030, Silicon Power 34A80, Inland 1TB X4, Seagate FireCuda. The design is one of the fastest NVMe SSD you can buy for the money. The drives are all bought from Phison and then relabeled by the end brand. It isn't built by Sabrent. They purchased it, labeled it, and service the warranty on it.

QLC is not better, it would have to be $50 less to be a better deal IMO.
This is a better deal but with a shorter 3 year warranty, albeit easier to service, just walk into Microcenter. Its the exact same drive as the Sabrent, same OEM same parts, different label.

I'm not entirely sure where I'm incorrect. You didn't post anything that shows I'm wrong.

1.) The drive is bought and rebanded, like I said.
2.) It's not a Phison E12 reference PCB, and not made by Phison. Phison doesn't even manufacturer their own reference SSDs, they farm that out because they don't have the capability. They're a controller manufacturer, not an SSD manufacturer.
3.) You've posted nothing to disprove that these drives aren't using NAND that failed QA from someone else. NAND that fails QA is cheaper, but can still perform just as well, but could lead to things like longevity issues.

The drives will likely be just fine. They're cheap and fast, and a good deal. And with wear leveling, the couple of cells in each NAND chip that failed QA might never become an issue. But the reality is that these drives are likely using failed QA NAND and that is why they are cheap.

A lot of their other products do seem like they fall into that realm of 'Rosewill' and other ultra-cheap companies.

As far as their SSDs, while the design may be the same, the qc and price point specifications vary based on what the company wants--if they want cheap with a higher defect rate, that is what will be made, while another brand of the same design may have more stringent defect rate requirement, and thus will fail less (and probably cost more).

It's like this in every manufacturing vertical, whether it's computer parts or automotive parts. If you knew what I knew about auto parts...
