ASRock Fatal1ty X370 GAMING X - Bios Issues

My ASRock has been running very well since I purchased it a year ago with my AMD Ryzen 7 1700X. My G.Skill TridentZ 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 3200 ran with no issues at 3200 with its specified 16-18-18. But I always had an issue with the onboard sound card. So I purchased the external ASUS Xonar DGX PCI-E GX2.5 Audio Engine and all is very well. But a new bios update appeared, I postponed and postponed updating the motherboard. Then another one appeared strictly for the new Ryzen 3000 series.

I eventually upgraded the motherboard bios to the version just under the Ryzen 3000 supported bios. The one that was recommended for my 1700X. Now for some reason I get Blue Screen of Death's when I try to run my Ram at its default 3200 16-18-18, where as before it was rock stable. But my onboard sound works great now LOL...

Any suggestions as to how I can rectify this issue? I don't think ASRock will release another bios for older Ryzen 1700's anymore. So if possible can I revert back to the previous Ram stable bios?

Yeah any time i flash i go back to that to reduce any possible chances of bricking or undesired effects

Why arent you updating to a newer BIOS?

Seriously, the latest BIOS updates still help out the old chips, the ABBA AGESA BIOS (my god, the abbreviations are going nuts) that just came out for my B450 changed how my 2700x works far for the better, i'm seeing higher boost clocks, lower idles and overall goodness.

I just looked and your board has upto 1.0.0.3 ABB, which worked fine for me but didnt turbo quite as well as it should have for single core workloads - but it was completely stable and reliable.

I really do recommend updating to the latest BIOS and keeping an eye out for ABBA for your board in the coming weeks

I think you might have misunderstood my original post. My Ram was working fine until I did upgrade the BIOS. But look at ASROCK's comments on the newest bios they have available. They recommend people with original ZEN CPUs to not upgrade. Note I upgraded to the 5.50 and not the 5.60. Because of the comment ASRock made in the red square.

I always went with ASUS for all my PCs but said to myself, let me give ASRock a try, plus I liked how this gaming board looked. But you have a very valid point with regards to bios updates. I remember how ASUS throws out bios updates frequently, then another follows due to some sort of stability issues. LOL

I must have missed that when i checked out the BIOS page, how strange that they've had to do that

if you're on 5.5.0 you might be as new as you can get... ABB had some issues for me on my board (nothing critical, just annoying stuff) - you may have to wait for ABBA for them to fix your issues

back in the good old days, BIOS flashing was risky as hell.
These days, people do dumb things (BIOS flash with unstable RAM! BIOS flash during thunder storm! BIOS flash to make my games go faster!)

I remember when you had to peel stickers off the BIOS chip and expose it to sunlight to erase the ROM with the system running, then put the sticker back perfectly, flash it from a slow as hell unreliable magnetic floppy disk, reboot and hope it wasnt dead.

THOSE were risky. These days boards are pretty safe to flash, although OP's oddity with the BIOS being advised against use on older CPU's is unusual.

I was around for those too so regardless bios flashing is a dangerous task

run thaiphoon burner and post a screenshot of the spd info. no need to purchase anything, just run the freeware version and hit reed. once you know more information about the modules give DRAM Calculator for Ryzen a shot. ive found that the latest version does not include values for tRFC 2 and tRFC 4. asrock boards use this value and auto does not get the job done so i use version 1.4.1.

Tell me about it, I remember the AMD Athlon 64 days when I was told to flash the bios in order to allow the CPU to be recognized. The flash went bad of course and I had to RMA the board back to ASUS lol. Something similar also happened to me with a Asus ROG FX 8350 based mobo. Had to RMA it because it didn't have bios recovery or dual bios options back in the day.

you need to use the values for samsung oem on the calculator. there are 2 types of bdie and it would seem yours are oem. try out the safe version first then give the fast a try.

Once i needed custom bios to check few things on my pc and they were nice enough and they did what i wanted, but that was simple thing: to be able to downgrade to much older version.

Really? That would be amazing, like a company that actually cares for its customers in such a way. Let me see if I can sort the Ram issues out then I may contact them as a last resort. Thanks,

I think I tried the 4.X bios last year (and a few others one before) just to give it a shot to see if the memory support was better to reach 3466 MHz (AGEASA new release back in the day) but I always went back to the firsts one (i will check tonight if you want but I thinkz it's the 3.2 or 3.4).

I think you should do the same maybe the old one will fix your sound card too

There is agesa updates in the pipeline. Id ask asrock about it

Why did you drop the 5700XT, out of interest? I have both RTX and Navi and I'm trying to work out which one to keep. Driver issues, lots of BSOD's
