I'm looking forward to reviews, will be interesting to see if single core performance surpasses 9900k at 5ghz, and this one runs at say 4.8ghz... on single core tests only. We will finally see if 9900k loses it's single core throne.

This aint no new magical architecture. Expect 9900K single core to be faster at tasks - even at the same frequency simply for ring-bus being faster than mesh inter-connectivity.

ah this cpu isn't for me then, x-series has always been meant for nongamers really i guess

I'm looking forward to reviews, will be interesting to see if single core performance surpasses 9900k at 5ghz, and this one runs at say 4.8ghz... on single core tests only. We will finally see if 9900k loses it's single core throne.

Does that Designare board have a heatpipe going to the audio daughterboard?

I'm looking forward to reviews, will be interesting to see if single core performance surpasses 9900k at 5ghz, and this one runs at say 4.8ghz... on single core tests only. We will finally see if 9900k loses it's single core throne.
This is still Skylake-X, no different from the previous generation of Intel HEDT chips besides marginally improved frequencies (likely at the cost of even more power consumption).

No, it doesn’t. You can see it go into the M.2 heat spreader.
I'm pretty sure the shiny thing at the end of the m.2 heatsink is the standoff for the m.2 mounting screw. A heatpipe there would both make installing an SSD impossible (would need to remove the VRM heatsink) and would block any mounting points for the drive to begin with. So I'm quite sure the heatpipe is going into the shroud/heatsink over the audio board.

I think it's supposed to be a hawk, but the bottom part of the symbol makes it look more like a shrimp IMO.:D

You are right. I checked a better image on the product page. I think it’s headed under the shroud, but I can’t imagine what it’s cooling. Maybe the 10G network chip?

Yeah, that sounds likely. Those chips aren't tiny like GbE controllers, so it would make sense that it couldn't fit next to the I/O with all those RAM slots. And it would definitely cook under heavy load in a hot case if placed there with just a tiny sliver of metal to cool it.

I don't actually think they do - from what I've seen the number is the standard "44" (really 40+4 for the chipset link) as with previous Intel HEDT platforms. AFAIK the chipset is unchanged, so there are no more lanes to be found there either.
