Windows update no longer works.

After even a clean install and windows 10 does it's first update it will no longer update.

I have tried every thing and this is all I get now.

If you look at the pic you will see in the task bar the windows defender icon has a red X.
Anyone know how to fix this please help. Nothing I did so far and I did a lot even a CLEAN install of windows Formatted HDD and everything WTH is going on?

how old is your usb installer? create a new one. latest windows 10 is 1903.

That's not the Windows Defender icon. Its the Windows Security icon.

Have you done a cold reboot? That is, shutdown Windows normally, then unplug the computer from about 15 seconds, then connect power and boot again. Then run Windows Update.

If it still does not work, I would take a wait and see approach. When installing Windows from scratch, there are old updates upon updates that need to happen. I suspect if you give it a couple days, it will sort itself out on its own.

apparently build 1703 isn't going to work for you either. Always update your installer when doing a clean install.

It looks like 1703 is giving me the issue once it goes in this happens funny the other 2 computers I have are fine.

I guess I will just wait and see like Bill said for now. It's just strange all the sudden this one machine giving me the gears...

Okay I got the file down loaded but it don't install what do I do?

Well, why did you do a clean install? That should be a last resort option for fixing issues.

Not sure why you would not want to be up to date, Microsoft EOL older builds. Download the iso and extract it, run the setup, you should be ok but if your build is too old you might be sol.

Well what are you installing it from now? The link Svan provided is the latest version. The “Download” allows you to create a USB installer, really the right way to do it

Well the link Svan provided is the Media Creation Tool. You don‘t have a USB flash drive? Basically you just run that tool and it creates a USB stick installer with the most current version available. It can also burn a DVD?

download the iso extract it run setup it will update you to the latest without need of clean install, not ideal but it should work.

that file is not from the usb creator link I gave you, esd is a bit out of your league.

1703 can no longer be updated, and 1803 updates stop at end of this month. You need 1809 or 1903 to still get updates.
