It isn't stated as fact in the OP either. It's allegations by an anonymous YouTuber, no more, no less.

Hmmm, this article reminded me of the one about MSI screwing people over with AM4 motherboards by not supporting Zen 2. If I recall, no one ever reached out to MSI for comment and just took Reddit as fact.

Let's kick it up a notch and reach out to people actually involved before publishing.

Well in my opinion as a reader. The damage has been already done and there is no way to change that. To Steve and the whole GN crew the writer of the article btarunr should publicly apologize for using him as an example. That was a big mistake and it might have hurt GN's image a bit. Taking down the story would really not be ok, what is done is done.

So someone in my position has two options that will satisfy everyone, and one option that won't satisfy everyone: 1. I can quit TPU and have no livelihood left. 2. I can kill myself (nobody has lulz over a dead person), or 3. Try to put my 12 years of experience and some 10,000 newsposts on the line, apologize to everyone (including you), and hope that life gives me a second chance to be better.
This is really not a response I was expecting from someone who writes articles for a living. Killing yourself ??? That's a really unprofessional response. Just say your sorry and that will be enough. And be careful not to run after a story like a dog chasing a car. Stick to facts and what you know and you should be fine.
Hope this will blow over soon and not damage TPu's reputation too much. I like this site.

I didn't see the original article but if people can't read what was written (if bta had any sort of caption) then the blame can be spread. I am late to the game only because an article blasting tpu came through my feed.

That said, TPU's news was never really the reason people came here. TPU's value is in W1zzard's reviews as well as his dives into oddities. The rest of the value is in the forums with the people who provide solid information and share good experiences and keep it relatively untoxic.

Nothing has changed that. Bad reporting doesn't change the quality of W1zzard's reviews or commies in the forums.

That might be the case, but unfortunately, this bad press can effect that as well. Again, it's all about image.

How does this even happen? I give up...standards have dropped so, so far now that it is actually becoming absurd to even get some straight no nonsense tech news (or any news) without sly pointing of fingers at someone...anyone without any credible facts! Lets just throw mud and hope something sticks..

Figures. I've seen the type of reviews they are talking about, where reviewers compare the RX 5700 to the RTX 2060 super, and even though they do disclose that the RX 5700 is cheaper, the fact of the matter is the 2060S does end up looking favorable when its winning in most of the titles by 7-8%. Of course its a very small advantage and at at least $50 more its less value, but it gives the impression that the 2060s is faster to the competition.

Same thing goes for the RX 5700XT, I've seen so many reviews comparing it to the RTX 2070s which is $100 more expensive. Again they disclose the price difference, but it still makes the 2070s and the green team look better.

Additionally, @btarunr

While it may not seem like it, my comments aren't necessarily singling you out. This is a common problem within the tech industry and I don't think you are any worse than many of the other tech sites. In fact, this issue is spreading outside of the tech industry to journalism in general. Again, I didn't see the original article but it surely seems like this is being blown out of proportion a little.

I implore you to take this opportunity to study up on journalism and spruce up your skills. Use this as a learning opportunity and grow from it. I'm sure everybody bashing you as bad as they are has never made a mistake before. I know I have made some, some not small either.

That might be the case, but unfortunately, this bad press can effect that as well. Again, it's all about image.

Sure. But there are still people with brains left that can see through that. Also image, doesn't mean everything. While slightly different, Intel still made record profit with arguably inferior products and a less than stellar image. Nvidia is still Nvidia and doesn't usually have any good press but instead thrives off having an arguably better product.

Image isn't always everything, although that is largely all TPU has as it doesn't really have a tangible product outside of their image/credibility.

Can you post a transcript because I don't believe anything on youtube.

This whole story is actually just sort of sad, and mostly for the outlets reporting on it at the level of a Hollywood tabloid. It's low-brow, low-quality reporting bereft of effort or investigation, and we find it disappointing that this is where the industry is trending. TechPowerUp published an apology and retraction following its actions, but has left the story up and GN still shows up in the Google search thumbnails. Separately, and unrelated to TechPowerUp, the whole thing shows that the hivemind rage engine is more hyperfocused on building strawmen than anything else, and the latest is made of cardboard boxes. It's a cardboard boxman argument, if you will, a classic!

I think Steve could of just denied it and explained the situation without taking it so personally.
If you've studied advertising you would question the placement of some of the boxes.
The person who went a step further and publicly accused steve of shady product placement, 'who's info was reported on in this article' is the one who deserves
a hard time from Steve not tpu.imo

Really I can see both sides. Unfortunate, reason and rationality went out the window a long time ago. Gamer's Nexus is right that people don't bother to read, and pictures are nice and pretty. People would likely attributes Gamer's Nexus to those deeds regardless if it was true. That said, there are only so many sample images you are going to find on a story like this so what was bta really to do? My understanding was that TPU never used Gamer's Nexus or his name.

If btarunr can apologise for doing a bad post that involved not looking critically at the thing in front of him, can we get a similar apology for every case review Darksaber has ever done?

And miss the opportunity to make a video about it and drive traffic and views up ? We all know how this works.

Beginning of video was hilarious but then he got all serious about "shilling" and...that was...weird. The video was probably rushed so they did it in limited takes hence the weirdness. I kind of lost interest at that point. Anyway, inadvertently I think incident sent a lot of traffic towards GN which will ultimately be good for them.

From what I have seen in this thread, I have no idea how it blew up this much. Is it a full moons? Or does BPA really cause an increase of estrogen?
