Thank you. Throwing 'defamation' out there like that is another typical example. Don't make this bigger than it is. Could you go to court over this, sure! SHOULD you though?

Oh and by the by - Steve apparently agrees. So its definitely time to drop it :)

Going by this impeccable logic, if you point a gun at yourself and pull the trigger and you don't get shot, it's perfectly reasonable to do the same thing again. After all, you didn't get shot the first time, so it won't ever happen! Right? Right?

TPU didn't get shot this time. But that means it should take steps to make sure it doesn't point a loaded gun at itself again.

Right? Right?

Uh, no?

Even by the logic you cite no one wants this to happen again, and your analogy is terrible.

You know the best way to not make bad things happen again?

Don't ever do them in the first place.

That assumes you foresee the problem in the first place. That is often not the case.

The best way to not make things happen again is to remember and heed the lesson learned from the first time.

No that's the best way of doing nothing at all. There will always be a degree of risk involved if you want to write up something spicy. Sometimes that is very nice to have, other times it crosses the line. Even this Nvidia business. We all know shady dealings happen. We all know it will be difficult to put the finger on it. That is why such an article is at the same time very dangerous as it is very interesting. What if we DID find leads? What is a lead, and what isn't? Its never really that simple.

This touches on freedom of speech too. If there is a legal banhammer over your head all the time, are you ready to speak freely?

So no, don't agree and you're missing the point completely.

That assumes you foresee the problem in the first place. That is often not the case.

The best way to not make things happen again is to remember and heed the lesson learned from the first time.

This. And the best way to learn is by doing - part of doing is making mistakes. Although in this particular case, its not like the mistake is new.

That was bad on a technical fuck up layer. Yes, Nvidia should have disclosed that. After the fuckups with Microsoft and Apple, I would believe an Nvidia engineer claiming the slow half Gigabyte slipped through QA.

Intel on the other hand, bribed Dell and German electronics store chain MediaMarkt.
Their new "meet the competition"-shenanigans are worrisome to say the least.

That is one explanation. The other one is that Nvidia was milking asymmetrical VRAM for a long time now (Fermi, Kepler...) and they are very aware of the performance hit it delivers, which is why they do meticulous driver work for these types of cards. But they still try to sell it as a normal one... screw you if you happen to put such cards in SLI, for example. The 970 however was that cost-effective approach taken to a new level, really. Not knowing it? Bullshit. They have NEVER disclosed these kinds of setups and were never going to. Nothing slipped through QA. They're sorry they got caught.

And note. Since Maxwell, they haven't made such VRAM setups again, that I know of...

We all make mistakes, it's how you handle the mistake that matters. Generally, if a journalist has any integrity at all, when they print a false story, especially when they decide to directly call out other journalists, once they realize their mistake they print a retraction an apology. They don't just leave the article up for a couple week and then quietly delete it an hope no one notices.

At the same time, going forward changes should be made to make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen again. One of those changes really needs to be not posting news stories based off Reddit posts with no other evidence to back it up. Or for that matter, don't post news articles with no evidence to back them up, regardless of the source.

Why do you browse the tech web if not for RUMOURS about what's coming.

I dissagree with you.

I dissagree with you.

I don't believe unsubstantiated rumors about products should be posted as news either. If the product hasn't been announced by the manufacturer and the specs confirmed by the manufacturer, I don't want to even hear it and I won't believe it anyway.

Belief is always optional for everyone.

Then "News" would literally only be press releases.

Nah, benchmarks, reviews, etc would make it too. Plus, there are plenty of other tech news that is actually happening without press releases being put out about them.

You guys are missing the point. Nvidia don't have this in their hands because of endorsements. It is because they are using sites for favourable journalism. I, too, reported Nvidia's soon befell stock market crash. I'd say I reported it first, but who knows who else passed that up in 2016 and lived to see another day in journalism.

Maybe because the document originates from someplace who don't speak English natively.

Argh. My Engrish seems broken too. Don't mind me.

Possibly, but generally in those cases, you see many more such errors, including incorrect case, missing or extra commas and other very obvious mistakes. I didn't scan it thoroughly but only finding two is pretty good - if fake.

That crappy excel sheet is incredible and anyone who ever signed anything with NVIDIA can spot immediately how fake it is.

This type of crap reminds me of shady contracts AIB's did a decade ago, until they just started sending regular PDFs for media to sign on
