Hi,

Has anybody tried flashing their XFX RX5700 DD Ultra with reference AMD RX5700XT bios?
Would it work? It seems that reference RX5700XT bios is much more power efficient and could save more than 40W of power and would not lose the performance gains.

I did that and I actually bricked my Gpu and had to ubbrick it... Story: I used the force command. It did flash it to the 5700 XT but it was the black screen. Had to unbrick via the switch method. But any recommendations?

You put wrong bios on is why.

I realize that now. Lol I had to unbrick but it isn't the THICC it's the DD ultra

I did follow all steps but I still get the subsystem mismatch on each try? The switch position is correct (towards back plate) and its literally a new card never used?
doesnt matter the last few have went from a 5700 dd ultra to a 5700xt thicc 2 ultra.

You must have the command prompt open with administrator privileges

Listen return the card for a Sapphire 5700 Pulse

Hello there,

First off, Merry Christmas!

So I had the same issue as OP (mismatch ID's) and followed everything and successfully flashed the THICC II 5700 XT BIOS.

However, I'm having serious issues with AMD's drivers ever since.

Right after I finished flashing and restarted, windows acted like I had no drivers installed (5700 drivers were still installed as far as I was aware). So I downloaded and installed the newest drivers from AMD.
Everything seemed fine until I started Star Wars Battlefront II.

The moment I launch the game, my main monitor's gamma goes completely whack even after I close the game. It's like the gamma/contrast goes completely nuts and I can't do anything to reverse it but restart my PC. I've tried re-calibrating, logging off, messing with settings in-game, even editing the game file to turn DirectX12 to '0'.

I downgraded the drivers to the one before AMD's new Adrenalin and Battlefront II works fine. For the past two days I've been uninstalling (DDU in safe mode) and re-installing drivers and for sure it's every version of AMD's new Adrenalin.

I'd like to note that during this problem, my secondary monitor is completely fine. If I change the game over to the second screen, no problem, but my main monitor is still afflicted.

I've tried repairing the game, clearing Origin's cache, uninstalling & reinstalling SWBFII to no avail. The only thing that seems to fix it is any driver version before the new Adrenalin.

Also, even though gaming seems to be fine on the old drivers, Radeon keeps crashing. I've attached the crash details.

Is anyone else experiencing this at all?

My specs are as follows

OS: Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Processor: Intel I-5 2500k
Monitor: LG 32GK850F-B

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you
Having similar issues after flashing. XFX DD -> THICC XT. It does ok during a stress test, but the newest amd installation crashes during games randomly. Checked the windows logs and it is indeed the AMD adrenaline that is crashing it.

Remove em and install 12.1 or 12.3

Latest chipset drivers too

I'm on the latest chipset, but I'll try rolling back the driver, thanks!

Has anyone had different results flashing different versions of the bios?

Hold on go to the main tpu forum and under headline/news get the latest driver

Follow directions carefully and you shouldnt have a problem

Open GPU-Z attempt to upload the bios through GPU-Z to the VGA Bios Collection by clicking the arrow next to the uefi checkbox, you may get a prompt that it is already in the database/collection with a link to it, I need the link copy and pasted here. If you dont get that prompt just upload it and get the link once done.

Thanks for the thread.

I have the XFX 5700 DD but my part number is 57XL8LFD6... not the BD6 that everyone else here seems to have. Can I just go ahead and upgrade as well to the THICC II bios?

One other question... if I brick my card, I have motherboard that doesn't support the on board graphics on my 2600K cpu. Anyone know if there is a switch on my card to switch to another bios? If not can I put in a NVidia card in first 16X slot (I have 3), move the ATi to a lower 16X slot, boot to that and then re-flash the ATi 5700 I assume?

Make sure your card uses the same memory chips (Samsung or Micron) as the card you're crossflashing to. Check in GPU-Z advanced tab, if it cant be seen there, check physically.

Ah, seems my card is discontinued and XFX don't list it their site anymore. Mine is the DD (57XL8LFD6 ), not the DD Ultra (57XL8LBD6). Seems it's the non XT version of the THICK II, not the THICK II Ultra.

I never returned to this thread since the initial posting and success flashing, so I'm returning to provide a quick update.

Flashed GPU has been working flawlessly for about 6 months now. I initially had lots of issues with stability that I attributed to the flash, but I went back and forth between stock bios and XT bios and didn't find any tangible difference in stability. Intermittent moments of success trying different Radeon settings and driver versions, but had difficulty finding consistent stability. Turning off Enhanced Sync in the Radeon drivers eliminated any stability issues that I was encountering. Using the most up-to-date drivers has maintained the stability (currently on 20.2.2).

What is the reasoning behind wanting to flash the GPU

You will benefit more by upgrading that i3
There's no doubt that my system is CPU bottlenecked for many tasks, but I'm still seeing ~5-10% increase using the flashed XT bios and undervolting the GPU.

So I finally got around to trying this, after finding the bios switch on my card which made me comfortable in case it didn't work. I first tried the Thick II bios, but that only got me 1% more performance in 3DMark even though the clocks were much higher than before. Then I tried the Thick II Ultra bios and got 8% more performance. Sweet. Thanks to all those who posted here the information I needed.
