Just like igp...

IGPs a bit different. That dead die space can actually help OCing. But those Turing compute units don't powergate the same.

Course it is, as for when , thats the question, that and what's it going to be, which this rumour, doesn't clear up at all.

If this is existing RDNA and not RDNA2 it will be dead on arrival. Assuming the navi architecture scales, 5950xt might be a 2080ti competitor without RT, or if its RDNA2 with RTRT.

The problem is, Turing is more than a year old and Ampere is soon, reportedly pushed into first half of 2020. Considering Nvidia is already performance and efficiency leader using 12nm, and with first gen RTRT taking die space and power budget, 7nm+ Nvidia will be 50%+ performance gains with slight efficiency gains as well.

Think 2080ti performance at $450 or less, using the power draw of a 2060S.

AMD needed big navi 6 months ago, if it releases it now and its just RDNA1 scaled up it's a waste of time, and the only ones who will buy it are AMD fan boys, of which, admittedly there's a lot of.

Lets hold up on those rumors. Rumor was NVidia is going to have 50% performance gain and 50% efficiency. That math does not work, best case its either or, that is how the process improvements work. If I had to guess it will be around 30% performance increase in gaming like always and may be higher in RT performance.

5700xt's cooler wasnt great, but the other issue is thermal density. The 5700xt can pack a lot of power into a tiny package. A hypothetical larger GPU would couple that higher power use with a larger die. IE a "stock" 5800xt may use 300 watts of power like an AIB 5700xt, but the 5800xt would have a significantly larger die, and that larger surface area means its easier to cool. AIB versions pulling significantly more for a useless 50 mhz boost isnt helping the situation either. If you took the AIB cooler and put it on the non power sucking 5700xt stock card, you'd have a cool running GPU, just look at the nitro+. There is 0 reason for 5700xts to pull more then 225-230 watt normalized, but AIBs are pushing 300+ watts trying to get a bit of extra boost, and that severely impacts thermals.

Having a 2080 ti competitor this month or the next is "too little too late" when Ampere is right around the corner lol. It wouldn't make sense to release an expensive chip just to compete against a midrange Ampere aka RTX 3060 or 3070.

It's unfortunate but also true. They would have to cut costs so quick margins would be non existent.

Lisa is good at making AMD profitable, unfortunatly for us that means no more 290x or fury X chips until RTG gets the arch straightened out, and that may take years yet.

Nah fx5200, 5400, 5600 plus Le or ultra or something, no 5800-5900.
Stirs memories of 5870 to me ,which, unlike the Nvidia fx's was a great card.

This doesnt mean anything. Sapphire had the RX 490 name registered and it never materialized. If these cards were ready for imminent launch Lisa would have hyped them up at CES instead of rolling on the weaksauce 5600xt.

Maybe AMD said nothing about these at CES because they're tired of announcing new cards just so Nvidia can had 10 more Cuda cores to an already released card and slap a "super" bumper sticker on it

Everyone says "it's too late" which is totally wrong.... Generational "mismatch" is all in your heads and doesn't really matter, all that matters is the performance as it relates to the price.

It's been ages when they released their lineup about the same time, so it's usually always the "mismatch". In recent years it's rather that AMD gets to about the same level of performance and then Nvidia releases a new generation and it's in the lead again.

Well I would not count my chickens until they hatch, its weird we didn't hear anything about these till now. Its probably going to be lucky if any are close to the performance of a 2080ti. Even if one does hit or exceed it, with how long its taken NVidia will likely start pushing the RTX 3XXX series out the door at some point (Or an RTX 2080 ti super or similar). I would love to have some high end competition again and would be more than willing to pick one up from AMD to replace my Titan X Pascal, however its going to have to highly impress me to warrant dropping the money on them.

Well, to he fair, this isnt the first mention of this. As was noted earlier, the same thing from sapphire was initially reported by another website in August (but filed in june).

I meant weird in the sense that I feel like they would have bragged or shown us it at CES. But could also be they are keeping it secret to sneak up on Nvidia with too.

Lol wtf? We know zero about it and that is there?!! Lol, wow.
I wonder what's the point of adding "preliminary" specs based on nothing but thin air?

Navi 2x will face tough competition from Nvidia's next gen, so if they had it ready now, they would have released it as soon as possible.

If AMD added the same power saving tech found in consoles to this RDNA GPU and run it at even higher clocks, I'll be quite interested.
