Cyberpunk 2077 Delayed Five Months to September 2020

It’s always alright to delay a game until it’s actually playable without bugs.

Except you don't really know that at all. It could very well be delayed for years and that still would't guarantee it's going to be playable and bug free.

That rarely happens. With CDPR on this game, yes it's been shelved a few times. There are many reasons for that, one of the biggest is that it wasn't possible to realize the full vision of the game they wanted to make until now. The processing power just wasn't there. Now it is. Unlike in years past, CDPR has shown up with game footage and are spending gobs of money to promote it. Keanu Reeves is not a greedy guy, but he commands top dollar. CDPR would not spend that kind of money unless they could make it back with something great to offer. This delay is very unlikely to be anything other than putting the finishing touches and polish on what they are hoping will be their finest work yet.

I did because I‘m buying it no matter what. I bought it on GoG so they get 100% profit and my money helps ”now“ with development costs. I also got a 40% discount code at Displate which I used to buy a nice Star Wars poster I really wanted. I bought it last June I don’t regret it I just have to wait longer now.

Could be, but 5 months is a lot in game development world, a change like that isn't insignificant. I'd be slightly concerned if a was a raging Cyberpunk 2077 fan.

Because of the industry outcry regarding crunching. CDPR iirc responded saying they didn’t do it, which tbh probably meant that they stopped doing it during that public outcry.

this probably put it behind schedule. Recent reports indicate they have admitted they will be “crunching” to meet the new deadline. As a CDPR fan it’s hard to say, too people even more dedicated than me probably hard to swallow.

I’m taking some pretty educated guesses but I’m willing to bet they aren’t too off base.

I don’t mind them doing it though.

Mainly for early access. If you are streamers or youtubers it's a real world benefit. You get a head start in making contents that will attract viewers who are on the fence about buying the game.
Secondly is to show support to the developer that you like. I know it sounds cheesy but for people who have money to spare it's understandable.

Lastly, since nowadays you can easily refund digital product with ease, there's literally no harm in preordering. If you don't like the game then refund it before the deadline. It's better than waiting for review which may or may not be biased. Trying the game yourself is the best way to review it based on your personal taste and experience.

Its a LOT harder to recover from a bad launch than it is to delay something til its actually ready. So this is the right call.

Oh man! That was my birthday game. Gosh darn it. Still, I'll play it with my RTX Super 3080ti GTI.

It was my plan anyway, so this has probably just flipped the order they come in.

Also, I think we all know this will be a large game. Some folks with poop internet will want to be able to pre-dl it so its not a case of buying it one day, but only being able to play it the next.

in this specific case, my reasoning is that CDPR deserves the preorder, it's literally the first game that i want to preorder just to show them my support for their work.

Because sometimes to entice people into preordering, they offer you other free stuff or incentives. I'll stick to when the game is actually released myself.

It was good, already completed the campaign, very different from other first person titles, hard at times but worth it shall I say challenging, you become very powerful later in the game, the storyline isn't bad either and I like the graphics throughout especially bases like Wellspring when it's dark (in game night time)

This is why I never pre-order. I was tempted to do so with Cuberpunk because it happens to be the kind of game I really enjoy but fortunately I didn't give in.
