Hi guys, this is my first thread here. I could not find anything that is connected to my problem.
I bought a used XFX AMD Radeon VII, installed it but the display didn't turn on even though the pc did.
Flashed the vBios with success, installed the old driver, tried DDU-ing, re-installing windows 10 but it still wont post an image and it gives the Code 43 in the device manager.
Is there any way i can maybe fix it? To send it to someone to fix it?

Yeah 1200 and 500 are way different, when you had tested the card with 1200 psu was it in your friends rig?

Yes i know, it was in his system. And it was the same outcome.

And do you think that those videos about the rx480 and eli's videos are aplicable to my radeon vii ? Because if that is the case i might try it with my uncle considering he has all of the equipment for it. It would just require us to shop for parts.

Its a matter of troubleshooting.

First thing pull all gpu drivers, update motherboard chipset drivers, pull the gpu from the system, clean the pcie slot carefully with a duster, clean the gpu pins using electronic grade contact cleaner or 70+% isopropyl alcohol.

Update the motherboard bios too.

Fully and squarely insert gpu, try different monitor cable, have 2 separate power supply 8pin pcie connectors going to the gpu.

Get this tool and download 1 of several files above.

Follow my F7GOS Easy AMD Flash video link in my signature.

Other option

You may need to do a force flash in an administrator privileged command prompt. (Find cmd in start menu right click and open as administrator)

If that is not performed you may receive the stupid 0FL error.

Then follow this command

Enter this command first

Amdvbflash.exe -unlockrom 0

Then enter this command

amdvbflash -f -p 0 XXXX .rom

Note: XXXX is the name of the VBIOS file you downloaded. You can also change the downloaded file name to a simple name.

Otherwise you do it this way:

Create a new text file in your ATIFlash directory, name it FLASH.bat, and place this code into it:

@Echo off
cls

echo Flashing card 0 with BIOS.rom...
echo.
amdvbflash -p 0 -f BIOS.rom
echo.

pause
Assuming the new BIOS you want to flash onto your card is named BIOS.rom, this is the BIOS it will use for flashing.

Save your changes, then run the batch file by double-clicking on it.

Once you've received a success message, reboot your computer for the new BIOS to come into effect. If you can boot into Windows successfully, then that's good! (Note: your screen may flicker for a bit, because you basically have a new card, and Windows is trying to recognize it. If you want to be thorough, go ahead and do a clean re-install of your graphics drivers.)

Well i have tried all of the above, i DDU-ed all graphics drivers, updated my MB bios a month ago to the newest version, cleaned the pins and the slots. I don't believe its any of those things because i have my GTX 1050 ti working just fine and displaying the image. I even tried to flash the bios through win flash, and also through command prompt. At this point i really do believe it is hardware related, as i said the flash worked and the older driver installed just fine.

Try the 2 above from youtube.

Sounds like card may have had abuse to it.

Yes, i think i will try to contact eli. After reading some more,i think it is probably related to power delivery on the card, which i think i might be able to fix with some help. But thank you for the advice and tips. :)

I just want to ask one question here , Why on EARTH do you people feel the need to flash the video cards bios? It NEVER ends well and the gains are just NOT worth it. IMHO.

I would say flash it back or buy a new card.

There is only 1 sku and universal bios for the VII, there are no others, his card was messed up from the beginning.

If you follow what I do I help users restore cards that have been bricked/mined with

Just my 2 cents

Alright so you went through the steps outlined by @eidairaman1, was that using the GTx 1050 as the primary GPU and did you correctly select the secondary GPU in ATIFlash

Also if using the GTX 1050 while trying to flash the VII you maybe exceeding the capabilities of the PSU as well being only 500W

Try to using your friends 1200W PSU and go through the outlined specs again

Well the 1050 Ti is my card that is used for 3 years. I know that everything in the system works as intended with it. With that said, i flashed the bios with the display connected to the i7s onboard gpu. And i did uninstall the drivers for the onboard gpu, as well as the Nvidia drivers, stoped the updates, and disconnected the network cable. And it said that the flash was successful.

Can I just state as a member and recent buyer of one of your Radeon 5700 XTs that your forum presence greatly improved my image of your brand?

It's good to know local forum help is here, should I need it. That being said... used auction in Serbia... not sure what your policies say on that, heh.

Good luck OP. I wish you the best regardless.

Hi all,

Interestingly, I have the exact same issue with my XFX Radeon VII. I'm very lucky to say that I bought mine new from Amazon during their pre-Christmas sale ($499, super happy with the card). I've babied the thing, and absolutely did NOT flash it -- as others have mentioned, there is no point in flashing a Radeon VII anyway.

This card is a marvel of technology, although being re-binned compute silicon, there are probably some risks of hardware issues.

@XFXSupport I want to second the comment that your presence on this forum is a fantastic investment in the community. Whether or not you're able to help each user who reaches out, the fact that you've invested a real person (or few) to monitor the account is truly commendable. In my case, I'm now considering an RMA for the card and am wondering if you have any other advice.

Things I've tried:
  • Card was working without issue for a couple weeks. The failure happened after I left the machine turned off for several days (it was switched off from power physically).
  • Behavior in different machines:
    • Intel systems (tried both a Xeon E-2288g / C246 and an i7-4790K / Z87): Recognized as a Radeon VII under both Windows / GPU-Z and Linux (Ubuntu). Neither OS can flash the card. Card shows up as "No vBIOS".
    • AMD Threadripper 3960X: System refuses to POST with code 97 on a Gigabyte board (this is one of the later stages of PCIe initialization). This issue applies using multiple different slots.
  • Specific details on relevant steps:
    • Gentle but detailed cleaning of contacts with 99% IPA. Duster can on the PCIe slots. Other cards work perfectly in the slots.
    • Using strong power supplies. Titanium 750W Seasonic Prime, Corsair 1000W (also a Titanium model), and even tried a Rosewill Gold 750W.
    • Completely reset the system BIOS on each machine (CMOS clear). Running latest OS / kernel versions in every case. Latest AMD driver clean-installed after DDU.
    • In using atiflash, I did use the -unlockbios option (card number 1 in my case, running on a 5700XT while trying to do this). Also used -f -p when flashing. In every case, I get
      • Failed to read ROM
        ERROR: 0FL01

Feel free to ask more questions if I left out some relevant details. I love this card - it's something greater than just its performance, which is a worthy replacement daily-driver for my RTX 2080. I want to revive it, and would be very sad if it got junked after an RMA! (Although I'm pretty sure XFX could fix it, still, the thought alone is painful lol).
