A friend of mine is building a PC and ran into a weird problem with attaching the PSUs PCIe power connectors to his graphics card. They don't match
Screenshot_20200219-195125.png

They're not for the 12V CPU power either, they have the 6/8 split like a PCIe plug.

At first I thought it was a goof at the factory, but he checked with another PSU he had and apparently it's the same way!

Any thoughts?

Those don't look like PCIe connectors. They look like 8pin EPS power connectors for motherboards with high power draw CPU's. PCIe connector cables should match the jack on the video card.

Looks right to me:

Note that the pins that have the notches at the corners will go into the square holes. So the connectors in the OP's picture should go together and work just fine.

Looks like you're intending to plug the connectors in upside down. The clip is on the bottom... there's nowhere for that clip to go with the graphics card PCB in the way.

Make sure to check the power supply side, looks like wrong cable being used, remember the connection on the psu itself is proprietary but the connection to the gpu or motherboard, drives are at ATX 2.3+ standard...

I'm grateful you posted that diagram. It got me wondering and motivated looking into the specs of each standard more closely. Thank You.

Here's the thing though, look at the OP's photo and look at the diagram you posted. If you flip the OP's picture around you'll see what I was talking about. It seems to more closely match the EPS connector than the PCIe spec. I think we need more photo's and info from the OP to be of more help to them.

@OSdevr
Can you tell us the model number for the PSU and/or take pictures of it and all the cables it came with?

clearly it isn't upside down.

The connector should fit. if it fits easily, then it's fine.

Can't see anything wrong here. Perhaps the OP is not locking 6+2 pin together properly. The highlighted pins OP has marked out should still fit.

6+2 normally GPU
4+4 normally CPU

Good point. The thing is, the pin keys on the cables do not match what is supposed to be there. This is what happens when companies don't adhere to standards & specs.

This.

Looks fine to me as well. As newtekie says, the pins that have notches at the corners will go into the square holes. I just checked my PCIe connector to confirm 100% (Corsair AX1200i in this case)...

I suggest those saying otherwise check theirs. They look nothing like EPS if you look at the shapes...and they are not split 4/4.

Nope, the connectors he's holding match the 8-pin PCI-E from the diagram exactly.

A straight top down picture on the connectors will help.

Those who disagree... please check theirs before requesting the OP do more work.

I think what may be confusing some is position 8. Where the female end on the card shows a square, the male end from the PSU has the 'rounded' edge. This is normal. Again, please take a look at your PCIe connections and check. Mine is rounded with the 'notch' and worked perfectly across untold numbers of video cards.

EDIT: His blue circle is covering the 'slit' where that tab goes in.

OMG, I can't believe it is this difficult, but here you go:

TheyMatch.png

They match identically, the socket on the GPU has a square hole where a notched peg will go. A notched peg will go in a square hole, a square peg will not go in a notched hole. /thread
