EK Water Blocks finally launches the EK-Quantum Magnitude, a halo CPU block with customization cues from the EK-Supremacy EVO from yesteryear that kicks things up a notch. With a clear focus on design, material choice, performance, and customization, it aims to offer a lasting CPU cooling solution for years to come!

yay for another awesome review! We need more of them, and more often :)

I wish you also had AM4 and 2066 platforms to test on, your test methodology really deserves the ability to test on all relevant platforms.

You and me both, man. I was testing on x99 before this switch, and of course everyone buys Ryzen just as I decide to go with LGA 115x :D

Not much more to gain from the 9900K with ambient cooling, it's already at ~220 W at this point. You need a less efficient CPU or more cores lol.

I like the industrial look of the mounting frame, also that RGB is an option, not something forced straight at my face, but that price... Remember old DangerDen TDX and AquaComputer Kryos special versions, that were made of silver? The cost was similar, but at least was reasonable - it's silver we're talking about. I see no reason to pay that much for a copper block that only does <2C better than way cheaper options.

I was reading page after page ,examination page i was like : ok EK nice you have my attention , performance page i was like : ohhhh nice one of the least restrictive and it beats the Optimus now we're talking , then came the relative performance page : i was like there has to be something wrong and finally value and conclusion page killed me  . I mean imagine if that block was priced at 150 or something ( im sure EK would still make easily decent margins even at that price ) ..... NO BRAINER , but EK made the Optimus look like a bargain .

Top notch review as always VSG , keep them coming man .

Hi,
No doubt
My testing was very different on HEDT 2066 on just optimus lower end foundation block at 4.8 is telling on the max core difference is way more than 1c :)

on my clc I had back in the days before switching to air, the ek supreme hf full nickel, I really have nostalgia of this things looking so good on my pc, this remind me of that one, what a nice looking piece of metal! Really like block like this one.... but yea, for me clc is a no go, maybe one day when I will have money to invest again, I will remade my clc in my pc, and might consider again something like this one.

Nice to see some innovation and competition in cpu block world again but the pricing? Cmon. Ill stick with my nickel topped supremacy evo (that still performs among the best) for another few years. Or at least until pricing becomes a bit more sane.

Way Overpriced in my opinion. To me, that price is taking the P***
Around £180 would have been the limit for many, but to be Well above £200 is a rip off, That simple.

The customization is quite nice, and so is the focus on specializing the cooling engines between Ryzen and the two Intel sockets, but the Optimus just looks a bit more minimalist (and easier to maintain judging by having far fewer components to deal with) and slightly cheaper too. If I was in the market for a signature CPU block, I'd lean towards the Optimus.

The next challenge I'd love to see from both EK and Optimus is how they will compete on Threadripper/EPYC CPU blocks. Optimus says they're working on a dedicated TR block, and EK has shown here they can afford to custom-tailor a cooling engine/block for a specific, current-gen, CPU socket. So if EK can custom-tailor a TR/EPYC block in their Quantum line the same way they tailored a Ryzen CPU block, it would provide a rare but new level of "Premium" for the TR/EPYC sockets (and would also likely sell, considering those who can afford a TR-based system will likely also spend on a blinged out watercooling loop).

I think there the proverbial nail has been squarely hit on its head. Whilst there will always be a number that will afford 'it' whatever the price, sales diminish the higher the price goes and the balancing act is always finding that 'tipping' point. The block does look great and it's versatility will be a strong selling point and hopefully your results are born out with other testers, making for a strong overall product.
Overall though I feel that breaking that 200 barrier may bite them in the end but only time will tell there. If it does become the next 'latest greatest' than the cost will be a moot point for many, if however it doesn't become the leader (or it's lead is minimal) than I feel they may well have a turkey on their hands.

The price is absurd. Would much rather go with Optimus if I'm gonna spend near that much, even if the performance isn't quite as good. US sourced material and 10 year warranty (only 2 yrs on the EK).

Hi,
Yeah way out of my testing price range sadly 256.00 is just whack :)
Love to see what it can really do on hedt chip when the heat is on more than 8 cores at least 14 cores.

Hi,
Waiting for DHL shipping confirmation but should have a 2066 ek magnitude copper acetal coming tomorrow
So lots of fun this weekend for 9940x

Gave in to the devil's call did you?

Personally I will gladly sacrifice a degree or three and go Optimus. The simple fact is the EK has machining that screams $50 block. Chatter marks bug me. The machining marks on the base of the EK would drive me insane.

On my VII block I returned it because I could feel and hear the marks with my fingernail.

Bitspower block is smooth.
