AMD earlier this week trimmed prices of its retail 3rd generation Ryzen desktop processors in the US, through promotions exclusive to Newegg and Amazon. The company is also including 3-month Xbox Game Pass subscriptions with select models. The discounts see the 12-core/24-thread Ryzen 9 3900X go for $449, $50 lower than its MSRP of $499. The company's fastest 8-core/16-thread part, the Ryzen 7 3800X, is now going for $359, or $40 lower than its $399 MSRP. The popular Ryzen 7 3700X 8-core/16-thread chip is selling for $304, a $25 discount from its $329 MSRP. AMD is applying similar $25 cuts to its 6-core/12-thread parts, with the Ryzen 5 3600X going for $224 compared to its $249 MSRP, and the popular Ryzen 5 3600 priced at $174 compared to its $199 MSRP.

@btarunr Don't you mean 2nd gen Ryzen processors? 3rd gen is coming out this year.

Preparation for the new Ryzens and the price is dropping to make space for new processors? It does look like it.

No this the the 3rd gen but uarch (zen2) is not the same as the gen it belongs to, this follows from zen+ (2nd gen) chips:toast:

You might be thinking of Zen "3" that's coming out this year. But it's actually the fourth generation, if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah, it was the Zen+ designation that screwed up the naming scheme.

This is why I personally hate this 2nd/3rd gen or whatever classification they come up with, ideally model numbers (1xx or 2xx) should be enough but hey OEM & rebrands galore so most people need access to wikipedia to know what they're getting into

It's imho quite straightforward. The first number in the CPU name is the generation of the whole CPU and the number they want consumers to see. (ryzen 1xxx series being gen 1, 2xxx series gen 2 etc).

The actual core architecture version is something else though, and cannot really be properly valued without the right context and thus would require people to do some actual research regardless.

Apart from the 1600 AF (which has been rebranded in the positive sense), what CPU has been rebranded on the AMD side?

There is actually no exsistance of Ryzen 5 1600 AF, though there is Ryzen 5 1600 with AF serial number. Some idot start to call the serial number as model number.

Too early for price drop cos of 4th ryzen gen. I think it is because of coronavirus. Selling are stagnant right now

I wouldn't be so sure. Companies plan their budget for next year and if they have cash for upgrades they will go with what they have planned. March/April is when they release the cash and upgrade.

They’ve been selling for less than these prices already. Wasn’t the 3900X selling for $399-419 a few weeks ago? Maybe this just makes the discounted prices official?

Price drop in anticipation of the "new" intel series?
No they're likely to clear out the existing inventory, Intel's 10th gen is DoA especially if zen3 launches in a quarter or two of its release :nutkick:

Nine months, I think it was supposed to release in Q3 though probably only to the enterprise market? The consumer roadmap is rather sketchy, or I don't remember so one or the other

The price drop could be due to 2 reasons ~ there's a massive recession coming & with people shutting shop selling CPU's right now even with lower margins is a good idea than keeping them on shelves for a quarter or three. Yes a price cut to fend off the 10th gen Intel is also a factor but IMO much less so atm.

Most shops I saw list it as R5 1600 [12nm].

Nah it's 3rd generation Ryzen using 2nd generation Zen cores.

I’ll wait it out a little more. My 2700X is handling things just fine, but a good deal on the 3900X might change my mind. Being more complex to manufacture, I wonder if we will see the 3900X supply dwindle as opposed to the price dropping much further. The 3800X and below will likely hang around longer?

I hope the 3800X doesn't actually hang around longer, but we rather receive more offerings with more cores. 16-core, here I come ;)

Ryzen 2000 was Zen 1+/1.5 (Tweaked Zen 1.0)

Zen 2 is Ryzen 3000

Zen 3 is Ryzen 4000.

well, I tried playing some games with a controller recently like Tomb Raider series, etc... and I just can't stand aiming with a controller anymore after using mouse for so long...

so next gen consoles are a no go for me, because even games like God of War on PS4 aiming with the axe on controller annoyed the crap out of me since I am so used to speed thanks to mouse.

so following this line of logic, I am just going to go balls to the wall PC when Ryzen 4800x comes out, and big navi 2. if big navi 2 annoys me i will refund and get the rtx 3080 ti and retire for 5 years.

PC for life
