AMD's 4th generation Ryzen desktop processors are expected to launch around September 2020, sources in the motherboard industry tell DigiTimes. Codenamed "Vermeer," successor to "Matisse," these processors will be socket AM4 multi-chip modules of up to two CPU complex dies based on the "Zen 3" microarchitecture, combined with an I/O controller die. The "Zen 3" chiplets are expected to be fabricated on a newer 7 nm-class process by TSMC, either N7P or N7+. The biggest design change with "Zen 3" is the doing away of CCX arrangement of CPU cores, with each chiplet holding a common block of cores sharing a last-level cache. This, along with clock speed headroom gains from the new node are expected to yield generational price-performance increases.

The "Zen 2" based 8-core "Renoir" die is also expected to make its socket AM4 debut within 2020, succeeding the "Picasso" based quad-core Ryzen 3000-series APUs. This is a particularly important product for AMD, as it is expected to compete with Intel's 10th generation Core i5 6-core/12-thread processors in terms of pricing, while offering more cores (8-core/16-thread) and a faster iGPU. The 4th gen Ryzen socket AM4 processor lineup will launch alongside AMD's 600-series motherboard chipset, with forwards- and backwards-compatibility (i.e., "Vermeer" and "Renoir" working with older chipsets, and older AM4 processors working on 600-series chipset motherboards). AMD was originally expected to unveil these processors at the 2020 Computex trade-show in June, but Computex itself is rescheduled to late-September.

It is delayed which is why the new date is Sept 2020. It was suppose to come out between July - Sept 2020. So now announced Sept 2020, and availability for October? Or they will have immediate availability. Either way, ZEN3 is my next CPU upgrade and a new mobo.

Hope will work with Win 7, just like my 3600X.
The CPU works with any OS, because it has the X86 ISA.
The problem is the motherboard and its drivers.

I don't think September is realistic. There were no leaks, no benches no nothing, so prototypes are not even in full swing yet. I expect them to arrive holiday or maybe november 2020.
And then notebook chips in summer of 2021.

I hope it ships this year, but I've always considered the launch schedule a little optimistic, a revised architecture just one year after the previous, long before the virus-situation. (And I don't think this situation will impact CPU production substantially)

My worry though is the silence. AMD is usually seeding these interesting benchmarks a lot for ~4-5 months ahead of launch, and I haven't noticed anything in particular this time around.

It's more to do with the demand, you certainly wouldn't want a ton of Zen2 or Zen+ chips on the market with Zen3 launching & I'm pretty sure demand is going to tank in the next few quarters ~ hopefully only for a short time span though.

COVID-19 is going to cripple America like nothing before it.
Yeah just fantastic timing for AMD :shadedshu:

Yup, initial date was Computex but since it's rescheduled to September, then the Zen 3 Ryzen 4000 series announcement moved along.

I wonder what this will do to Intel launch? Feels like they are going to put them further in the rearview mirror though!

Lots of indication. Most tech sites are reporting a Computex 2020 launch platform and availability in a couple weeks later. That's September 2020 going into October 2020.
Basically, Dr. Lisa Su said 2020 is the year for 2020 at the Financial Analysis Day end of year. Depending on how you read that, it's the last Quarter of the year. That's October, November, December for actual availability. Launch as stated by most tech sites September.....

Well, it's just a modification of the current products, the same manufacturing process, so even that is kind of late for what it offers.

Lisa aims to do this with Intel's CEO:

It will have an enhanced architecture and manufacturing process.
It is not late. Only one year after the previous generation.

Basically, both of you are wrong. He stated 2020 is not the year of the cpu, but not why... 2020 is the year of the laptops in AMD's product timeline. I can annotate that with the ceo saying that on air.

It's a new architecture as clearly stated by the chief engineer.

Basically, both of you are wrong. He stated 2020 is not the year of the cpu, but not why... 2020 is the year of the laptops in AMD's product timeline. I can annotate that with the ceo saying that on air.
You are wrong too. ZEN3 desktop CPUs and RDNA2 was revealed at AMDs financial analysis day for a 2020 release.
I hate repeating myself. Lol

AMD Zen 3 release date
AMD’s CEO, Dr. Lisa Su, has confirmed that AMD Zen 3 processors will be released in 2020. AMD has also recently reiterated (via AnandTech) that Zen 3 CPUs will be released “later this year.” Our best guess for a Zen 3 release date is between July and September 2020.
AMD Zen 3 specs
AMD is using a completely new architecture for its upcoming Zen 3 processors, and these will be produced using an improved 7nm fabrication process from TSMC.
