I have this chip because I needed a motherboard replacement. I have found a whole pc for the price of a motherboard. I kept from that pc the mobo (obviously), the 2500k and a gt 210. I had this i5 in a box for more than 3 months. Yesterday I swapped it with my 2600k to have some fun. Here are the results:

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
It does 5ghz but at 1.42v so not worth ramming 0.8v for 200mhz.
For that CPU and its lack of threads today, you want every MHz possible.

4.8 ghz is good, but if you want kudos on a screenshot, 5 ghz or bust. :)

1.42v isnt sooooooo bad. if 1.4v being like the safe limit - but if temps are good then this shouldnt be an issue. I had a 2500k@4.9Ghz on 1.38-1.39v and it ran super cool.

Yeah but 0.8v dumps a lot of extra heat, which heats up the room.

You're likely adding 30-50W at most... not much overall

Safe for those 32nm chips was 1.4-+1.45 iirc.
I will try to see the best my 2600k (main) can to under 1.45v, but I'm still keeping that at 1.36 4.6 for daily oc. 40w from cpu + 60w from gpu extra heat for 4.3% and 2.5% clock gains respectively is pretty stupid to run 24/7.

Arctic freezer 34. Keept the cpu at 80c (which I'd be ok running 24/7) in aida 5ghz 1.45v which is pretty good for a budget tower cooler. But my problem isn't cpu temps. Sandy was thermal efficient and had a good solder job. It's the heat that gets dumped from the cpu into the case and then into the room.

I originally had a Thermaltake Frio on mine. Cant remember the temps though but i think they were pretty good. Then i upgraded to a Antec Kuhler H2O 920 AIO and temps never went above 65'c. 65'c was like in an extreme case. 60'c was more the average - even after hours of playing battlefield 3 or 4.

are you using a small case?

Deepcool e-shield. The less popular sibling of the matrexx 55 but with a manly mesh front and 5.25 bay.

I’ve put over 1.5v into my 3770K air cooled. My chip doesn’t appreciate voltage over 1.315 or so, but it scales with it and is probably the hottest chip that I’ve ever owned that puts out no heat

Honestly thats a pretty good case for airflow. its a lot lot better than a lot of budget cases. As for dumping heat in the room. Bro... Some of us have run GTX480s in SLi. Youre worried about 2500k dumping heat into the room? please

Maybe open up a window a little if you can. You dont understand the TRUE MEANING of the term 'room heater'

You got your case all kitted up with fans?? You could get some Noctua Redux and run them at 1000rpm and the airflow would probably be enough. Lighting is a different subject - I dont like fancy RGB but i dont mind a simple solid colour LED strip to light up my case a little.

But the redux are pretty cheap and perform pretty well.

Arctic f12s is what I have... Today or tomorrow I'm gonna put the 2500K back in it's box. It hiccups sometimes even in NieR: Automata where people for some reason even advise turning off HT. An OC 980ti is bottlenecked even with max settings in games at 1080p which is how I play but a 290(x) should be a good pair.

Unless you use a potato for a GPU, that cpu will put a glass ceiling on things. ;)

Insisting doesn't eliminate a glass ceiling. Take the time to go find some benchmarks showing that CPU holding back mid-range GPUs at 1080p ultra. They are our there. ;)

2600k still kickass my kiddo still uses my old one and he doesn't have any complaints with current new games.

Pretty sure 2500k still can keep up with 1080p resolution.

We get it... a 2600K is good enough, but again, If you stuck about any modern CPU against any mid-range performing card at 1080p (be it ultra or low), the 2600K, even at 5 GHz, the Sandybridge holds things back.

If you insist.
Nobody is giving me money or sucking my cock to praise a 4c4t cpu and I even admited it hiccups in a 2017 game which doesn't even make great use of ht (nier). But I stand by what I say. I tested my 2600k (before getting this 2500k from scraps) ht on vs off, and in fc new dawn for example I came off with 60 fps average and 40 minimum, after an average of 3 runs where I basically replayed 3 different sieges with a lot of explosives thrown. If in that same game you max out the graphics (I had everything maxed out beside blur) and only get 55fps average and a minimum bellow 40 from a 290 or 970, how is the cpu holding things back?

lol, sucking your cock.........WTF??? Wow......classy... :(

So you are testing with manual runs in one game? Not terribly repeatable nor accurate. Use the integrated benchmark for empirical testing. And test in more titles before coming to a conclusion.

That aside, you only gave one set of numbers (60/40 and 55/below 40). If you want to see the card being held back, test it with a modern processor and see for yourself. Again, it is 'good enough'. You can get 60 fps out of it. I'm not saying otherwise. However, compared to any Ryzen 3000 or Intel 9 series, you will get more FPS at 1080p. So, yes, that CPU can put a glass ceiling on things, even with what would be considered a mid-range card today. Of course how much or how little will vary by title and settings. Some titles show fewer differences, others more. It depends.

I know this is with a 2080 Ti, but, you get the picture I am sure.

This is one with a 1080 - still huge gaps.

Just be clear what I am saying.......... that CPU will place a glass ceiling on your FPS in most titles with many GPUs (including an R9 290x = ~ RX 590) at 1080p. I'm not saying it isn't good enough or not 60 FPS capable, just that it leaves performance on the table compared to modern processors, even at 5 GHz.... :)

Yikes...yikes.

That is HT testing... has nothing to do with what I am saying...nor does it do what your title even says. You didn't compare it to any 2019 CPU!!! So, great HT test... but that is about all you seemed to cover. I havent mentioned core/thread count ever.
