Google is pushing it hard now. Almost every image on Google Images is in WebP format.

Google is pushing it hard now. Almost every image on Google Images is in WebP format.
They sniff the browser "accept" header and dynamically serve webp if supported, legacy formats if not. We do the same for our ads and most images on tpucdn.com

This is the recommended implementation nowadays

Hey @W1zzard and @Kursah

Just letting you know Chrome Beta and Chrome Canary branches break the TPU website, page numbers vanish except the most recent ones, and 'watch and unwatch' also vanish in the upper right corner of any forum/thread page. I tested on regular chrome, everything works fine still, and firefox everything works fine. Just giving you a heads up is all, if anyone else can replicate these two issues feel free to post here. Just wanted to give you a heads up in-case whatever is breaking the site gets pushed to regular Chrome and breaks it for a lot of people at once.

Edit: I don't know if you are already talking about this, because I can't go back on pages to look LOL  (referring to the google talk in the previous two posts)

Chromium Edge also removes the headers in the Forums' main page for recent headlines and recent discussions and the avatars of the most recent posters for the subforums.

For some weird reason, the Forum Stats are blank in Chromium Edge

Firefox for the win? As of late TPU has been without any issues on FF.

Eh, besides TPU and most popular/mainstream/common websites, I'm not sure.

There is this government website that I use all the time, which has a menu on the side. The normal behavior is that the menu pops up either when you enter the site or when you click on the "hamburger" icon that toggles it, and you can hide it back by clicking on the icon again.

On current versions of Firefox, that toggle doesn't work. Either the menu shows up when you load the page or it doesn't. If it doesn't show up, you have to click the toggle and refresh the page, and then the menu shows up. On top of that, once you click on one of the menu options, it takes you to whatever you clicked, but the menu disappears, and since it's the only way to move through different system screens, if you have to use the menu, you have to again click the toggle and refresh the page.

It's super annoying, and potentially dangerous, because in some cases refreshing the page means sending a "transaction" again. Since this is the revenue service system I'm talking about, doing that could end up in a legal problem or months of back-and-forth with one of the tax agencies to clean that mess up.

So, to circumvent that issue, and because I just can't stand Chrome at all, I still have FF 52 as a separate install, as the site works fine there. Nobody is taking Firefox from me lol

I agree, but that is not the point of my post. W1zz needs to make sure the ship can sail all the waves that come its way to keep ad revenue flowing steadily.

This one is easily explained. The article was taken down as it is no longer in the front-page lineup. You were likely viewing it as it was being taken down, thus the error message.

Woah, thanks! One of the certificates in our SSL chain expired

This caused our server-side scripts to no longer function because they would throw "SSL expired" when executing HTTP callback's on TPU's own server

Fixed now

Loooong explanation by someone who had the same happen to them: https://blog.algolia.com/may-30-ssl-incident/

Really how often do they take an front page item off as it was only posted on Thursday, 01:28 by btrunner and its not just older FP stuff either it'll happen on stuff posted that day too also seems funny that it's only 1 out of the 5 pics doing it if it were what you were saying would all 5 give that error not just 1

That post is still around, with the same images I think. I tested a posting to FB bug with that post, so could've been that.
How often do you encounter that error? Did you click the next buttons to navigate or that image specifically?

quite regularly on stories with multiple thumbnails to click on rarely on stories with 1 thumbnail but if I right click the offending thumb and choose to open in a new tab the pic shows up with no error at all

We serve most of our images through cloudflare's cdn, maybe there is some issue there, but not sure how to debug. otoh this is the only such report, so could be something else.

Not really a technical issue but I think sources from the news items should be included in the forums as well.
Now sources of the news items are only visible on the homepage.

Edit: A few minutes ago I got:

I don't know if this is a bug or not, but it's definitely me being picky, but the buttons on the top hand navigation on the right side have a different background color than the ones on the left which match the rest of the bar. They're very similar, but the bar background is hex color #263343 and the button background is #232e3c.

For what it's worth, I don't notice the difference on the 4K LG monitor I use on my tower, but I totally notice it with the 5k Ultrafine displays with the laptop.

In that screenshot, the normal background colors are on the left, right, and between the bell and search buttons.

I figured that this wasn't intentional since the colors of the buttons on the left match the background of the bar.

Hey @W1zzard and @Kursah

Just letting you know Chrome Beta and Chrome Canary branches break the TPU website, page numbers vanish except the most recent ones, and 'watch and unwatch' also vanish in the upper right corner of any forum/thread page. EDITs for clarification.

Page numbers, headers in the forums' main page and forum stats box seem to be fixed in Chromium Edge (canary). I didn't check at the time, but since the Unwatch button shows up fine here, I guess whatever problem it had is fixed too.

Thanks!
