Hi, yes i am using palit bios. Chrome needs reinstalling and it is fine then. Also this bios makes fan go max 2200rpm. But my fan is 1500rpm (kraken fan) so it is fine. This bios is not good if you want to use the stock cooler.

Thanks for this info. I was going to say I flashed this bios and the benchmarks were worse than the HP stock ones! Guess it's because the fans can't spin as fast so just thermal throttles like hell.

Guess the answer is if I'm sticking with blower leave it on HP till I'm ready to switch? Maybe undervolt too?

Is it just a reference PCB? Underneath ? As I am tempted to just buy the open air cooling solution from another card off eBay

Hi, It is exactly what happened in your case, thermal throttling. I really recommend to buy AIO water cooler instead air cooler. Makes hell a lot of difference. My card in full stress don't exceeed 52 deg C now (being super quiet)!!

Benchmark Scores They're pretty good, nothing crazy.
an AIO or the raijintek morpheus with 2 slim kaze fans for that bios -- otherwise you will instathrottle.

That blower fan has to spin at like 5K and will still throttle on stock bios. With a 2200rpm max bios and +25% power limit you're asking for a chernobyl style meltdown in your house.

Ha that is what I thought haha. Getting a reasonable score in 3DMark but much higher on the Stock Bios like you said. I am about to put the GPU in a Ghost S1 (Tiny case) so not sure AiO is going to be an option hence the air cooler I was going to go for which is the reason I am hoping its Reference PCB. If I had a bigger case I would be 100% doing what you have done :)

Yeah I noticed how slow it was spinning. It Instathrottled so hard the first time the PC just locked up haha. I put the HP Bios back in and all is well again just need to figure out what I am doing cooling wise

Well this Gigabyte bios probably give you a bit more fan speed and it has 300W TDP vs Palit's 310W TDP. Since the Gigabyte model is a 3 fans config, max fan RPM probably in the 3000s vs 2000s on the Palit dual fans

If you are feeling adventurous, use Conductonaut TIM can also lower the temp by 5C

Thanks for this! I will check it out for sure. Do you happen to ahve any pics of the fan connector into the GPU? I seen the pics has a little PCB with the wires going into it does the fan fit into that part? Reason I am asking is that I am seeing how hard it would be to fit a cooler to it with a second fan is it a standard fit?

Conductonaut TIM is not outwith the realms of possibility, just need to make sure I tape off and insulate the bits around the die

I checked this gigabyte bios as well before, same fan speed issue. Fan header is standard long nvidia one + board with 2x 4pin pwm fan header connected to it.

You can try an Arctic Accelero IV cooler

Conductonaut is safe to use for GPU since it sit horizontally, if you spread it just enough (no bubble) then there is little chance it would drip onto the surrounding SMD. For CPU it would be riskier since the CPU sit vertically.

You can see the fan board i was talking about in attached picture. I would still recommend AIO, even if you have to change the case. Accelero is quite huge and doesnt have vrm cooling. If you modify front and back plate you can keep vrm cooling with AIO. The video above shows that card is temperature throttling still with accelero (up to 1800Mhz clocks only). Mine is not temperature throttled at all, only by power, and i have constant 2000+ MHz clocks when overclocked, even i big stress.

I bought exactly the same HP 2080ti card from ebay for £799 (the brand new jigsaw 24 new cards straight out of an oem HP machine right?).
no dust on it at all, new as described. was really happy, until i found out what the blower was like under high speeds in my case.... my god that thing can take off if i unscrewed it from the case.

so, i done the same thing as you.. looked at alt solutions... i ended up going for an artic xtreme IV air mod. bought a new one for £45 (another bargain) and put it all together very slowly. worked great while the case was open.. really really quiet even at load... then i closed my cooler master Silencio 550 case and it got louder and louder again (epecially with games like Ark). no where near as loud or hot as the original blower card and it boosts over 2000mhz as well (or did when the case was open).

I then went and bought a Palit gaming pro heatsink/fan/backplate used shroud from ebay on another deal, thinking that 2x 90mm fans might be better (rather than the 3 on the xtreme iv). I fit it ok and it looked fine, but the fans run at high speeds only as i only had the 14pin -> 4pin header that came with the xtreme IV to use to power one of the fans (while the other fan got powered from a molex->4pin gpu fan header adapter). that one was also loud.. but i think due to the lack of 14pin adapters on the market to use for that propriatory header on the nvidia pcb. i might have been able to pull out the little nvidia Fan PCB from the old hp shroud, but i wanted all that untouched if i re-sold it or wanted to put it back to stock... would also look weird hanging from the new card setup.

I ended up sticking the xtreme IV back on with some better heat paste (not going liquid metal yet) and i spent a little longer this time on the contact points.
Its fine, but i still think the look of the xtreme IV is a bit.... pants..... and the rigidity of the card itself isnt the best... i do wonder if it'll break lose or bend the PCB in some way if i tighten it more (as the grips that come with the xtreme iv are like little clamps around the outside of the pcb).
i disagree with some of the comments above about the VRM chips not being cooled with the xtreme iv as the 3 fans not only blow on the heatsink, but also go straight through the heatsink directly onto the card. on top of that, the massive thick heatsink style back plate that comes with it (with extra cooling pads) takes some of the vrm heat away above the card from behind to help with cooling those components. its not the best, granted, but i certainly think they get some decent airflow (better than most bundled shrouds).

i think my future is in water cooling like yourself... i may end up going full hog with a decent water block over the whole card (luckily this HP oem card is also oem reference nvidia PCB so should fit most blocks).
when the new ryzen is out i'll upgrade my old intel 4790k and treat the whole thing to a new mesh/open case and if the air flow ends up sorting my xtreme IV fan's out, i may just end up water cooling the cpu alone.

thanks for posting all your thoughts and pictures chaps.... really helps me think about options for this card. i was scared of breaking the thing after yanking it out of its original mount, but seems you guys have done that and more with yours.

my pics are below:

I will keep mine for year or two. It is enough for my needs. 4k 60fps Ultra in all games is all i need. And it does the job.

Just to add a little thanks to the starter of this thread and those that contributed for the knowledge contained within it.

With all the 3080 stock shortages I had an itch to upgrade and couldn't get one (a lot of others can't either).

Got a hp blower 2080ti and accelero IV cooler. Done extractly like this thread and whilst tried the Palit bios didn't see much of an massive improvement on clock speeds so reverted to stock hp one, now running +200/+1000 stable so far can push it to 220/1250 but turned it down a bit.

Considering I purchased the 2080ti for £500 buy it now on eBay and the accelero cooler was £55. With the £325 I got for my old 1080ti blower card I'm getting a 30-40% improvement for £230.

I did attach some extra vram heatsinks too just to help and some others along the areas thermal pads were in the stock cooler. Seeing temps topping out at 65% and clock speeds during firestrike around the 1940-2040 Mark.

Happy

Should keep me going until 3080 stock is in and they have ironed out any issues with drivers etc.

Very nice! That cooler is a beast... I have mine on a Morpheus II, and I really hope the mounting holes line up on the 3080, since I would much rather use these coolers than any of the aftermarket options.

IMO the power limits on these are already past the point of diminishing returns on these cards.

Edit: what sinks are those? Did you get those on amazon?

The ones in the link below are 14x14mm and cover the vram chips well. I did have to move a couple when I attached the cooler which lost stickiness but applied a couple of the other spares and they're fine.

Well chuffed I've got it running sweet. Wanted to get it as best as I could for the new flight simulator 2020. Newark airport and not bad fps mostly on ultra settings. You can see the clock speed and temps, running with my 9700kf@5.1 with an aoi.

How the cards of the other owners from this thread behave?? All good? Mine is working perfectly. Got myself and CPU upgrade and now is working even better than before. My i7 7700K was a bit dated. Now i have i7 10700k + Z490 mobo and Cyberpunk 2077 on 4k Ultra (RT OFF) with DLSS on balanced I have constant 60fps. Dream :)

i had a few issues with apex, dota and some other 3d games crashing... didnt know if it was the hp oem 2080 ti with the artic xtreme or something else (i did have it paired with a fairly old ddr3 rig). so decided to get myself a new pc with a custom water loop. for the money i guess i couldve bought a new nvidia 3xxx card but availability was crap at the time (still is)....

new system is a ryzen 5 / msi x570 / 3600 xmp cas6 ddr4 ram / 420mm radiator and custom loop with a corsair x570 block for the OEM HP 2080ti. the system now flies and doesnt crash at all.
The same 2080ti card now doesnt go over 42deg at load and overclocks like mad. it runs well over 2000mhz and cyberpunk @1440p with DLSS balanced + Raytracing turned on is rock solid.

a secondary plus side is the whole system is now silent.... literally silent but the slight gurgle of pump noise which is actually quite relaxing, like a little fish tank bubbling every now and again.

a third plus side is it looks the spuds :)

will post some pics in a bit.

Pics..

This looks really good. Looks like i was right saying Accelero is not the best choice for this card. Watercooling is the key. Picture of mine after upgrade below.
