Corsair Recalls SF Series of PSUs due to Failure Concerns

Corsair's SF series of PSUs has been long present as part of the company's offerings, designed to the satisfy small form factor crowd with its SFX size. Today, Corsair has announced that they will be recalling some units and replace them free of charge, including free shipping. Corsair says that "We have recently identified higher-than-normal RMA rates among our SF family of small-form-factor PSUs. Following a thorough investigation, we have found a potential issue that can manifest when the PSU is exposed to a combination of both high temperatures, and high humidity. This regrettably can cause the PSU to fail. This issue potentially affects units in lot codes 194448xx to 201148xx, manufactured between October 2019 and March 2020."

The problem is located in the AC conversion part of the PSU, not the DC one which interacts with PC components, so Corsairs points out that all of the components are safe even if PSU fails. To get a replacement PSU, Corsair offers affected customers to submit their tickets here, with the title "SF Series voluntary product replacement", so they can easily identify customers and give them quicker replacement units.

thats very good of them but its not just the sf which has problems the cx and sx isnt fit and thay know it.

They have redesigned CX a few years back, those with green stickers were affected but I haven't heard anything about the grey ones. Anecdotally, out of the 2 green CX I have used one of them failed at 6 year mark but the other is still going strong (7 years now).

I don't know much about SX though.

I Had the cx750 running my main rig a while ago the rig started hardbooting so got intouch with corsair with no reply for over 3 weeks by that time id moved on and put the psu in the bin and brought a seasonic. very slow service from corsair lifes too short but ive read loads online with folks having the same problem.

Luckily both my SF600's aren't affected.

Well, when I saw news about it I really started to worry because recently I have bought sf750 and it is still in transit to my postal box. And I really want to know what explodes in psu, and just repair\modify it, I don't want to send it back.

Mine is not in the batch affected by this issue and i'm not prone to high temp/humidity anyways so i guess i'm pretty safe .

Sh** happens so i guess kudos to Corsair for handling the issue the way they do !

APFC diode shorts on the heatsink and fails due to failing insulation/thermal pad between them due to high humidity.

One failure doesn't make an entire product line "unfit". Do you honestly think there is a single product out there that has a 0% failure rate?

I can also Google 5G causes Coronavirus and find people that actually believe that.

I work for Corsair. I know the failure rate. It's less than 1%.

When you sell 100 x more of a product than the next guy, you're going to see 100 x more complaints.

There is absolutely nothing wrong (i.e. "design flaw") with the CX series.
