ASUS released a beta BIOS updates for its top AMD 400-series chipset motherboard that includes the AGESA ComboAM4 1.0.0.6 microcode. A HardwareLuxx.de community member tracking AGESA updates posted screenshot of a Crosshair VII Hero (X470) motherboard with a AGESA ComboAM4 1.0.0.6 version (not to be confused with AGESA PinnaclePI 1.0.0.6). The beta BIOS version for the motherboard bears version number 3101. The BIOS file was originally released to web by Shamino on the OCN forums, earlier today.

While not much is known about ComboAM4 1.0.0.6, the Beta BIOS 3101 for Crosshair VII Hero enables per-CCX overclocking, meaning that you can set different manual OC multiplier values per CCX on your processor. We're not sure if both "Pinnacle Ridge" and "Matisse" support it, or just the latter. We also don't know at this point if per-CCX overclocking is an ASUS innovation or a feature of ComboAM4 1.0.0.6. Find the BIOS ROM file here.

Asus is well known for releasing bios updates on high end boards but those on the lower end like my x370 they haven't even released agesa 1004

I'm a CVIIH owner and in the ROG foruns, there was the feeling that asus forgot the board long ago. The 1.0.0.4 was released 27/12/2019. Almost 2 months after the other vendors. Nice to see this

They released for the CVIH x370 by the end of last year (I own a CVIH and a CVIIH and they released 1.00.0.4 at the same day, without per CCX OC, the bios are exactly the same)

Not really my experience, I had a Crosshair 5 now a 7 and they sidelined my 5 after two years , I did get 1004 on the 7 but didn't expect further releases unless I showed Asus a zen3 Ryzen 4### receipt.

Very odd that they'd release this for the CH 7 instead of the CH 8.

As a CH 6 owner myself I'm not expecting any further BIOS updates. It's not supposed to get Zen 3 support and it only has a 16MB BIOS chip anyway, so there really isn't any incentive for ASUS to dedicate any further time to it (or any of their X370 boards). And it's not like overclocking is really a thing on Ryzen anyway.

For a start, there are some X570 boards have a 16MB BIOS chip. That's a non issue (more of an excuse than an actual reason).

Secondly, there's a XT refresh series coming out soon.. and there's been no indication that X370 series wouldn't get support for these, since they are essentially better binned versions of the same chip (3800X vs 3800XT).

Thirdly.. it's one thing if you've got a low end X370 board, but CH VI is still a great board, with great VRM.. can handle 3950X comfortably.. it's essentially a X470 CH VII with an extra 2 sata ports, an extra PCIe slot, and less VRM capability (but still very adequate). It's the flagship board and had something like 6-7 BIOS updates from July until December last year. There's a difference in the chipset but it's very minor. The BIOS for the two boards (VI and VII) are essentially the same or at least it is that way on the Taichi. The Taichi X470 has a 32MB BIOS chip and doesn't even use it.. what does that tell you. The BIOS file itself is only 16MB despite having the hardware for 32MB. The boards for VI and VII are basically the same in most respects. I'm not going to try and predict the future.. it's up to ASUS (and AMD) how they will handle things. How much support they are willing to offer, if the 4000 series support will ever be complete or buggy. There could be one BIOS update and it's buggy, or it could be better than that. Perhaps MSI will lead the way due to their MAX series and the others will feel compelled to keep up, because the board makers are always trying to one up each other. It's up in the air.. but I do think the X370 Taichi and Crosshair Hero VI deserve support.. and it'll be very interesting and telling which makers look after their customers and which ones don't. There's also the possiblity for modded or beta bios from unofficial sources.. but yeah. I don't think it's something to demand or to expect, but I still think support for these two boards are possible. Otherwise.. I would expect to see a BIOS for refresh series due to be released soon. This beta BIOS is a good omen for the owners in terms of 4000 series support.

Well I have given this bios a try, it's not bad for a beta ,no issues in use except the uefi GUI is a bit gimped ,use the graphical fan setup and it can lockup.
Using the drop menus works as intended.
I think I am seeing marginal performance improvements.
There's more to fiddle with yet though including per ccx clocking, more toy's and slider's, yaay.
