In a draw of luck, the second of my corsair AIO h100i just died out of the blue, and while the first was under warranty and replaced the same day, this one isn't, and just by luck my two intel coolers arrived few days before

compared to the 240mm aio, the cpu runs about 5c hotter, but passes a stress test wonderfully, being fully unlocked and tdp unlimited(!). the cooler is a bit loud when fully loaded, and louder than the aio at idle, but it is super easy to install, does it's job, and I won't be using the flaky AIO's from now on. The installation of two AIO in the tower is much harder, the faulty one still hanging there as it was custom installed by me.
The tdp of the intel cooler is 150w, but I find it is much stronger than this, and certainly the heat pipes and the fan are very efficient.

A small correction, the cooler pictured is for Socket 2011 the first iteration, not 2011-3.
It also shows as TDP130 not TDP150 as you mentioned.
I have one of these and find it better than the stock Intel cooler, but not as efficient as a tower cooler.

Considering the mechanical specifications did not change between the various iterations of LGA 2011 that's a very small correction. Unless you want to cite the dynamic and static compressive load values changing by exactly 1 newton.

Those look like the coolers that came with my i7-920's back in the day.

I know I have 2 of them, I'm using them for 100W LEDs now.

They work pretty well for that, so they're decent coolers.

I replaced them with towers.

My bold underline added for emphasis,
Pedestal chassis that provides adequate ventilation and correct temperature air to heat sink with fan removed
I have a colleague who builds a lot of custom PCs designed for use in home theaters where "silent running" (that is, zero fan noise) is a top client demand. He reports these affordable coolers work great for that, and he recommends their use when absolute silence is a requirement. But, he added if you keep the fan attached, it is very quiet on low speeds, but the fan noise may be unacceptable to some at full speed.

indeed it is a tad noisy @8000rpm, but asrock provides user customized fan curves in the bios, so i will keep it @ 20% on idle temps at least

I'm sure mounting an aftermarket fan from Noctua or something would fix that.

That's if the fan is actually needed. But again, that's if needed. It takes very little air movement to make that heatsink much more efficient. So a very low fan speed may be all that's needed. And then the included fan is really quiet - especially in a good case.

I'm also guessing there's no easy way to mod it to fit on other sockets...

Would be nice if Intel would go with a design like this for their stock coolers to compete with AMD's Wraith Prism cooler.
