Hello all,

I've been trying to undervolt for a couple of days now and it hasn't been a nice journey.
After a lot of blue screens, I have come to this configuration in throttlestop, but it isn't enough. I' am a heavy gamer and my CPU temp yesterday got to a 100 degrees with an avarage of 95+.
I am getting really desperate so I searched for forums, I hope this is the right place and that you are willing to help. If you need more info i will check this thread every 10 min :).
I am also starting to think that there is something wrong with my pc because its only a month old.

My pc specs
I7-8750H 2,20GHz
RTX 2070
and i don't think you need more,

Thanks in advance.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
This is a forum, not a chat box, relax. :)

What laptop, exactly? Have you tried adding one of those lap fan things? Repasting the CPU and GPU? Is this new or older? If it isn't new, have you cleaned the dust out?

Sadly this is what you'll get with chips like those and laptops. Undervolting is clutching at straws I am afraid with many of these laptops.

Hi,
You might instead limit cpu max frequecy in windows power plan
Instead of 100% use 80%....

But indeed make sure the cool fan works if not rma for thermal defect.

The laptop is just new so i don't want to repaste already because my warranty will then expire .
I'll think about the laptop fan thingie thanks!

Yea I guess so i've read that a lot, but I just hope i that it wont effect the lifespan of it.

I think I am doing this already in throttlestop setting my Turbo ratio limits to 36.

Repaste. Set ThrottleStop correctly. Mine was 2 weeks old when I repasted it. With both of the above all is good now. You skip one of them and Thermal throttling is back again.

Hahaha. Why not. I'm with Strix 3. Despite the bad factory applied thermal paste, all else is good enough.
Hi,
Well you just likely voided your warranty by opening the laptop for one.
Never know someone else s abilities of disassembly but voiding warranty is another story best to rma and be safe warranty is still intact ;)

1st of all - this is not a pc at all, it's a gaming laptop - an unsuccessful attempt for a gaming pc :) As for you are a heavy gamer, why didn't you buy a desktop gaming, at least you won't have any of this thermal problems. At least 90% of gaming laptops has this thermal problem with cpu and you have to do so many gimmicks to work at least stable and not perfomance wise at all. To buy a gaming laptop which overheats is a very pointless idea!

No, I didn't. The guarantee is not voided.
I'm using my laptop (9750/2070) for heavy CAD/CAM job and travel quite a lot through Europe, working on it from everywhere. I'm using laptop for more than 12 years for this purpose and would laugh at anyone trying to convince me, the Desktop brick is sooo much better. No it isn't. It's better, but not that much. With the proper paste, and good settings, my laptop is never going above 90 C (with absolutely no PL1, PL2 or whatever throttling at all in any test or real job/game you name).

So, lets stop talking childish BS and help the guy.
Try Core/Cache offset ratio of 2:1, for example 190/85 and lets see what you get as results.

Hi,
Well this thread is not about you it's about the op and he/ she has already stated repasting a new laptop will void warranty and I concur not a good thing to do service or rma :)

I don't. Let him/her ask the RMA center, if it voids the warranty. If the answer is No - nothing's stopping him/her.

Okay, that it's not a pc was my bad, but it doesn't mean that i did a wrong buy, you don't know what my requirements where when buying. And that it was a gaming laptop that overheats I didn't know, even after researching for 2 weeks straight, but you said it yourself 90% of the gaming pc's overheat so i guess i didn't have much choise.

I am not sure where i can contact the rma center, but will do some research or even wait for a year and do the repaste than, who knows.

HI,
Undo everything you've done in the os except use balanced power plan.

Don't waste your time and money trying to RMA it, it is working as designed and there is no error.
Perhaps @unclewebb can assist with your Throttlestop settings.
Unfortunately it will run hot due to the design of the chassis, thin and light should not be used in the same title as gaming when it comes to laptops.

Hi,
Over heating period
95+ yes anything over I'd say 80c would be overheating on default configuration.
Means cooling fans are not engaging or crappy contact if you feel the fans blowing hard as it heats up.

Not true again. This chip is designed to work in temps up to 100 C. According to Intel, all these are safe working temperatures, longterm. Anything below 90 is considered more than satisfying. That's the reason I mention "proper" paste. Old generation pastes work up to 110 C and in short time start to degrade and loose their cooling properties. New pastes work in up to 200 C and perform perfectly in these hot conditions.
