Hey folks,

its been a while. I had been going through alot and now i want to put myself together.
I want to pick where i left. I have Asus G750jm with a faulty graphics card. I am thinking of modding it and pushing it to the limits.

Two SSD in raid mode
Max out ram
Gtx880m 8gb (need confirmation if it will work)
Mainboard replacement (with 3d support)
120hz 3d screen.
Body modification (color+Rgb led)
Keyboard rgb color change (not sure)
Battery replacement.
Processor upgrade (reballing)

or simply look for the g750jh model with 3d panel and mainboard ?

It looks like that notebook has been around for at least 6 years. I see no reason to put that kind of money into a computer that old. Plus, notebooks in general just aren't designed to support mods and upgrades. Your options would be very limited, at best.

So if me and if mobility was not a necessity, I would put my time and money into building a new quality PC, a computer that is designed to support years of evolving upgrades. If having a mobile computer is absolutely essential, I'd be shopping for new notebook.

Waste of time.

You could buy a brand new system for $600 that would perform better.

Well, of course! But with just a tiny bit of homework, it still would not be hard to find a brand new notebook for $600 that would perform better than what you have now.

With your current hardware being 6 years old, even if able to upgrade some of the components, the rest would still be 6 years old. This would include the motherboard, battery, charger, drives, keyboard and monitor.

There is no ATX Form Factor standard for notebooks. You just can't swap everything out of notebook case like you can with an ATX compliant PC case. Notebooks are just too proprietary.

that was the reason it kept sitting in the store for a while. It does perform but not particularly a desktop replacement.

keeping in mind. I just wanted some extra to get it going but looking at ebay its going to be expensive.

"Some extra to get it going"? Ummm you were talking about replacing the the motherboard, CPU, graphics, adding RAM and even modifying the case. That's a LOT more than "some extra"!

Benchmark Scores Don't know any benchmark. It runs good enough for me.
Laptop upgrade is only worth it when it is functioning, since you said many parts is no longer functioning I don't recommend. It depends if you find spare parts for cheap in aliexpress or ebay. If the parts are cheap then maybe. I took a look at aliexpress the parts i found make it not worth it. Better getting a new laptop or a functioning 2nd hand one.

i see no reason for upgrading that lappy mate, get yourself a new one or better still build yourself a ryzen desktop if you have the room, in my view id be wasting my money when it could go to something better bro.

TBH i like modding things. Not just any modding but upto the very end.
The processor reballing depends if i get another performance part in cheap. Reballing is not an average person’s DIY.
For the gfx thats pricy. The gtx880m 8gb which is the last and final upgrade for g750. Not sure where would that go from here.

I appreciate your research on Ali Express and i did that myself. Those parts are still more expensive then what i have in mind.
P.S. The g750 i have is in working order.

You are right. Threadripper is always on my mind or Ryzen 4th Gen. Yet i have alot of hardware and i mod things around. The worst things i lost my legs for atleast a few months from now.
g750 isnt a bad lappy. People owing it are still satisfied. The best thing is not to upgrade but to mod it then
