I think we are going to be surprised by big navi though, I really think AMD has got their crap together this time, so we will see. I'm honestly in no rush, most of the games I am playing right now are indie anyway. I may not even buy until January or February, I don't know yet. I do know I am going Zen 3 100% though.

They need to straight up double performance to just match 3080. They did double the 5700xt presuming leaks are true but they aren't getting a linear performance jump. That means they need to pick up what they lose via arch and node tweaks. Not that they can't but when was the last time we saw a jump like they need?

big navi is on 7nm EUV, doesn't that count for zomething? Zen 3 is rumored big gain causes of 7nm EUV. we won't know until oct 8th of course. but if so, i expect big navi to be bigger jump than we realize.

It's not like they are going from 12 to 7. There going from 7 to 7+. The best thing they have going for them is they can crank the wattage to match Nvidia.

There is no 7nm EUV for Zen3, at least not initially. Lisa (or was it Papermaster?) confirmed it a while back, back at CES IIRC. You will have something like 7nm+ or N7P denoting it's better than regular N7 used for Zen2, how much ~ that's anyone's guess till the reviews come out!

Honestly, I don't think they even need to equal the 3080. The 3080 is going to have availability issues for months, and in the end, at the price it is I bet no more than 20% of gamers buy it. If AMD is super competitive in the 3060 and 3070 territory, where most purchases will be made, then they may have a fairly successful card. I was about to say they would have a winner, but I don't believe it will go that far.

Yes, if they can place Navi square between the 3070 and 3080 they've got a winner, especially now that the 3080 is starting to look less attractive in several ways as the dust settles.

But that is being pretty optimistic if you look at what 5700 is. Also, they lack GDDR6X so that kinda rains on that parade pretty hard.
