XBOX boss Phil Spencer recently warned interested parties on the new Microsoft Xbox family of devices that supply shortages may not be so short-lived as we would've hoped. More recently, XBOX chief Financial Officer Tim Stuart said he believes that demand will continue to outstrip supply well after the holiday season and at least until April 2021 - a point at which Microsoft might just be able to match demand with its supply.

"I think we'll continue to see supply shortages as we head into the post-holiday quarter, so Microsoft's Q3, calendar Q1," said Xbox chief financial officer Tim Stuart, Speaking at the Jefferies Interactive Entertainment Virtual Conference (transcribed by Seeking Alpha). "And then when we get to Q4, all of our supply chain continuing to go full speed heading into kind of the pre-summer months. And that's where I start to - I expect to see a little bit of the demand - the supply profile, meeting the demand profile." Microsoft's fiscal Q4 runs from April through June. Whether or not that's true, one thing we can now for sure: while supply isn't enough to satisfy demand, we'll see scalpers continuing to sell what consoles and graphics cards they managed to snag for outrageous prices. Don't cede: vote with your wallet and don't give them a pat on the back with your hard-earned money.

There's already scalpers in my city selling PS5 for $1400. I would imagine the same for this. My kids have four consoles already, Id rather buy a new computer than another console anyways.

Don't worry you'll get scalped either way.

It's a fantastic year for hardware manufacturers, really. Every launched product has been sold out in no time. It's as though all the stars has been aligned, all the launched products are very much worth their money. There isn't any disappointment once you hold the product in the hand.

Sorry, but this reminds me life in USSR during 80s. If you go to store, you will never buy something interesting, new, cool, advanced, etc... But, if you know right people, or ready to pay 3-5x times of the real price you will get it for sure.

Let's just call it an 'Issue' and be done with it.

People got issues. Products are fine

Well, their supply is not meeting demand when they full on new that there will be high demand. That's why it's called a shortage, or, that's what I think at least.

Series X was widely available on launch in Poland... until someone on reddit posted that Polish MS store still has them available. Xbox simply isn't that popular over here.
Looks like MS tried to make sure they have units on launch in each country, it's just that people from other countries started to buy them out once they weren't available locally.

That's funny that Microsoft thinks they'll have a shortage until April, must be an early April Fool's joke. With no exclusives and no unique hardware features we can all stick to our PCs.

Didn't they already say that you can play every Xbox game on pc using their Game Pass Ultimate? Do they even have a launch date for the new Halo Infinite other than 2021? I feel like we have Nintendo to thank for everything having a shortage making a high demand after the Wii/mini nes.

Paying a scalper 10 000$ or whatever for a 3090 at least gets you something that is technically the best that there is for playing games, but paying 10 000$ for something that ... isn't, now that's truly unfathomably stupid.

All of these supply shortages are down to TSMC being the only game in town for decent quality silicon.

Ampere on Samsung hasn't gone as well as Nvidia like but at least it's taking some of the constraint away from TSMC

We have had debates about this at work.

It boiled down to me just saying I have patience so that I do not need these at this time. Well, PS5 is more up my alley compared to Xbox. I am expecting same will happen with RX 6800 GPU's. As I have had money set aside to buy one, guess I can use that to buy xmas gifts instead and buy one when they are available in sometime next year.

Did hear a lot of others getting angry though. Cause well, they got nothing else to do and I dont blame them.

I actually think hardware manufactures are kind of dumb. Capitalism is all about supply and demand, they should have raised the launch prices by 100-200 across the board, and they would still be sold out until April 2021, but they would be buying nicer cars then the ones they drive now that is for sure.

Let me guess, COVID? Nowadays when there's a problem people just say "You know, Covid."

It's COVID in a sense. There's a larger number of people cooped up in their residences and with nothing to spend on, since vacationing is strongly discouraged. Thus, all that money can now go towards upgrading entertainment equipment like consoles and PCs. Even when the PS4/Switch/X1 released, there were some shortages, but it wasn't as bad since not everyone was spending on a console for the holidays, and fresh stock trickled in enough to keep the shortage to a minimum. But between then and now, there hasn't really been a big expansion of manufacturing facilities, so the amount produced isn't much more than what could be produced during the last launch.

also, let's do a worst case scenario here, lets say the factories have a flood, they never come back in stock the entire gaming industry collapses.

guess what? i still have so many games to play, books to read, movies to watch, music to listen to on backlog i can't hope to finish them all before i die... so i mean, eh. lol life is w.e deal with it and move on, its not like we are living in medieval times

Currently, I am replaying Parasite Eve on PS1. I guarantee that it will take me till after Christmas to be able to get to the end and then beat the Chrysler Building. So I am busy till stock comes in ;)
