I just helped a friend of mine to assemble his first gaming PC. He uses a 5600X.

After that, he went home and I've missed the chance to do a comparison.

Which CPU is faster?

Which CPU is faster?

Their stock boost clocks are the same @ 4.6Ghz.
I think the i5 9600K can OC higher than 5600X.

5600X should be faster. Faster single thread performance and it has 6 more threads as well.

ST, depends from the level of OC. but 5600X should be a little bit ahead.
MT, 5600X will be much faster, since 9600K doesn't have SMT.

I'm considering selling the 9600K. Then buy a new 5600X. Is it worth getting?

Faster by how much?
The 9600K without overclock but only XMP and all cores max at 4.5~4.6Ghz. What is the max boost frequency of the 5600X?

Max boost frequency is irrelevant when comparing two different cpu architectures the 5600X would obliterate the 9600k overall but if you are still rocking the extremely slow RX 570 it's not gonna matter in gaming and for CPU specific task it depend on what you're actually doing with your CPU.

You'd notice the most difference with a 2080 ti/3070 or above in gaming which compared to what you are rocking isn't very relevant. Depending on game you may see better 1% lows though.

I can tell this thread will turn into some steaming pile at some point.......

But there is no point changing platform OR worrying about how much faster/slower/sexier/richer/hotter/colder/whateveryouwishtoworryabout.

Stick with the 9600K and buy some better RAM and a new(er?) GPU.... then maybe a new monitor.... after that, enjoy.

Yes, true..
I should upgrade as soon as stock resumes normal.
But I m hoping for a 3070 ti. Rumours say it has 16 GB of VRAM.

Either way with your setup I would go gpu upgrade first and only upgrade the cpu if you notice that its holding you back.

Thanks for the advices.
My RAM isn't top notch, it's the Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000MHz only. I'm thinking a Crucial Ballistic 3200 MHz ARGB kit while DDR4 is cheaper than ever or should I go for G.Skill's?
I like to wait for the 3700 Ti.
Then Mar 2021, swap the 9600 K with the 11600 and 500 mobo.

Either way with your setup I would go gpu upgrade first and only upgrade the cpu if you notice that its holding you back.
Sounds like a plan, cheers!

Shoot for 3600 CL16/17 on the ram

Don't get hung up on the amount of VRAM. Look at it this way - if you had bought an 8GB 570 it wouldn't have made any difference. By the time you need it, the card's too slow to do anything with it.

If it was me I'd prioritize getting a monitor right now (like you were doing for the past few weeks) and not bother with any of the current hardware releases right now.
But if I did get a gpu instead of waiting for something that might or might not fill my criteria I'd go with the one that's available right now. 3070 for that sweet ray tracing and shit or 6800 for that raw performance and 16GB vram.

As for 5600X or rocket lake, at this point I'd just wait for DDR5 and Ryzen 6000 or alder lake instead of buying into dead platforms.

read a review... they are all over this site...others.. :)

I wouldn't spend the money. 5600x might net you like 5% increase at 1080p and maybe 3% at 1440p.

The next similiar class CPU that nets you a signficant increase in performance probably isn't happening till 2022 to be honest.

9600k is over 2 years old and really isn't any different from the 3 year old 8600k but it's still a more than capable CPU for gaming/office work. There's a reason why people stick with CPUs for a long time, the jump per gen isn't like it is with GPUs

I almost bought a 9600K as it was about 80 bucks cheaper than my cpu. Any CPU close to 5GHz is going to rip if you can keep it cool.. the reality is that there is always going to be something faster for just a little more cash.. always something just around the corner.. I was going to buy a 10600K too because what a beast for the cash. But I would have been choked to drop all that cash and 6 months later they hammer out another hit. DDR5 is coming, I bet whatever runs with those will be beasts and I would look towards that.. and for now just run the piss out what you have right now, even if you need a new cooler :toast:

Why not overclock the ram and see what performance you can get.

OC the snot outta that 9600k and wait a couple of years for a significant DDR5 type upgrade

Go large or go home.
Don't limit yourself to slow Ram, aim higher.

Not always true. I replaced my GTX 780ti not because of it not having enough performance, but because 3 GB of VRAM was no longer enough. It was upgraded to a 1070. So the top of the line GTX 700 card was made insufficient within 2 generations

Shoot for 3600 CL16/17 on the ram
Thanks for the pointer. Thought 3200 is the sweet spot, now I know 3600 is the best. No wonder, with the 3000Mhz, my system seems a bit less snappy.

True. If I get some better ram now, I might not be able to sell them.

3070 is not bad, I just want to get one which is more or less future proof. But getting 3080 is really a bit too insane for the price. Look at the ending of 2080 ti now. Two years ago, it was a Caesar class card. Today, it's beaten by 3070. So I guess I wait for the 3070 Ti

I invest in a very good cooler Corsair H100i 240. The only regrets I have is that the quality seems not better than my aging HYP Hydro Series bought in 2013.

Ok I I'll stick with my current rig and wait for the DDR5

It's running XMP, at 3000Mhz.

Considering all those FPS a graphics card delivers, the CPU shouldn't be a decisive factor, is my understanding correct?

The amount of ram should proportional to the screen resolution used. 1920*1080<2K.

The speed of the ram also matters.

If you have a 9600K, you can probably sell that around 175 and get a 9900K for $320 now I think... that's a pretty small $$ swing for extra smoothness / higher 1% and .1%- you're not really going to notice the difference between 5600x and 9900k two if you go 3070ti or 3080.

It's an easy plop-in to your current board - and then you can wait for DDR5 until it drops in price and stops being nuts comfortably.

Edit: nvm that deal was over i guess... the 9900KF is 329 on amazon tho.

I wouldnt waste any money on faster ram, maybe try to up the XMP profile to 3200mhz, see if it sticks.

If you have enough $$$ to do a full platform switch how about going the whole hog & picking a 5900x or 5950x :pimp:
