I'm disappoint in the, PC enthusiast, PC gamer's "PC master race" as whole lately just impatient and the unwilling to wait for stock to fill up, but ok with buying things as soon as they release.
people where ok with buying $1,200 RTX 2080 TI's when it's MSRP price was what $999
Now they want to complain about it during a world wide a pandemic. After production was stopped for a few months. Now you got Scalpers making money of people having F.O.M.O and just being Impatient.
All you have to do wait three months and not buy anything, stock volume will pick up by then.

I say let all those GPU's and CPU sit on The shelfs a while.

to be honest i doubt price will get better even if the stock is improving. definitely not in three months.

So, I am a scalper. Small scale, I sold my 3080 for twice the price. I got my MSI Ventus fairly quickly, because, let's say, "I know a guy who knows a guy who works in a distribution center", so I got one of the first units to arrive in Europe. I bought it for myself, but a work proximity acquaintance got really excited when I mentioned it and offered me twice the price I paid. So I sold it to him, got my old 1080ti out and now I regret it, since Cyberpunk 2077 is completely unplayable and my current order for a 3080 is "maybe mid-january, we'll see" - from the same guy I got the first one. Oh well, thankfully I have other things to do than playing games.

Dude, CP2077 is playable on a GTX 960.
Stop trying to run ultra max 4K like a moron and pick settings appropriate to your hardware. A quick web search says that it'll run just fine at 1080p Ultra or 1440p High and dropping down to those settings is not going to make the gameplay mechanics or story any different.

Dude, CP2077 is playable on a GTX 960.

3840x2160/low gives me around 45fps, 35-40 when there is a lot going on. I consider this unplayable, and non-DLSS scaling from lower resolutions looks unpleasantly blurry and pixelated. 2160p/ultra is a concole-craptastic 25-35 fps, so I'm not even considering it as a viable option. 1080ti is not a "4K gaming" card for any major game made after 2018, even with severely lowered settings. It can handle a lot, don't get me wrong, I still use it for Elite: Dangerous in VR, but it's just not enough for some games.

Looks even worse. It's not a high-density screen as it is, so making pixels bigger just ruins the quality.
I don't even care that much. I generally buy games at least a year after release, usually in the GOTY version, if available. With all the patches, all the expansions, mature modding community and such. I bought the Witcher 3 just a few weeks ago for 9.99$. I prefer patience to spending money, but the Cyberpunk 2077 I got as a present and I wanted to try it. I'll wait for the 3080 to be available closer to MSRP.

You're going to want a pair of 3090s, by the way. 4K Ultra without DLSS is just over 20fps on a single 3090 and just under 20fps on a 3080. You can turn on DLSS to hit maybe 55fps but that introduces texture blur which makes things completely unplayable. But hey, you're $700 up at the moment and already own CP2077, so you only have to spend another $2300 to reach the bare minimum GPU spec for your playable experience!

Well, TPU quotes results from Tom's Hardware where a 3080 can achieve ~60 fps average/50fps low at 3840x2160/medium/no DLSS or ultra/DLSS. I'm fine with that, seems to be about twice what the 1080ti can do. I can see you're trying to be snarky, but the reality is I'm not a financially challenged adolescent and games are just an optional activity squarely in the "unproductive way to relax after work" category. I am fine with spending money if it gets me results, but dual 3090s are not a good idea for purely practical reasons and a single one is just a waste of money compared to the 3080. So I'll wait, maybe a 3080ti or SUPER variants will be announced in the meantime.

Yea i just gave up on trying to build a pc... I actually got a better deal on just buying a slightly older gaming laptop. $440 for a dell Inspiron 7577. i5 7300hq, 16gb ddr4 dual channel, gtx 1060 max-q. 256gb nvme (will upgrade later) + 1tb hdd. I think this is the first time ever where it was more economical to just buy a gaming laptop. and, as a bonus, its only a 180w power brick so that'll help with the utility bill. we're averaging about $7.25/day for power. screen could be higher refresh rate but its ok.

maybe when the non ti 3060 or 3050 come out i can finally finish the build for a customer that's been waiting since around Thanksgiving.
