Intel "Avengers Edition" 10th Gen Core Desktop Processors Reach End of Life (EOL)

Intel today commenced the process of discontinuation of the "Avengers Edition" SKUs of its 10th Generation Core "Comet Lake-S" desktop processors, through a product change notification (PCN). The said PCN #117894-00 mentions December 16, 2020 as a common date for all four key discontinuation milestones in the product's lifecycle, namely Product Discontinuation Support commencement, Last Product Discontinuance Order (the last opportunity for distributors to place orders from Intel for), the date for these orders to become non-cancelable and non-returnable; and the date for the last order to ship. Normally, the latter two milestones are spaced 6 months and 12 months apart from the date of the product discontinuation PCN. To put this in simpler terms—and unless the PCN doesn't have a typo with its dates—Intel is expeditiously discontinuing its 10th Gen Core "Comet Lake-S" desktop processors, marking them EOL (end of life).

I hear you, I gave up on the 5900x, got tired of fighting bots.

Not regretting getting this CPU at all, only 100MHz slower than a 10900K with the same number of cores, for a much lower price, gaming at 4K it performs right on par with top of the line CPUs from AMD and Intel.

Until Rocket Lake drops next year. I have a feeling Comet Lake is going to have a short lifespan.

Edit: Would of been nice if Intel had put in the bare minimum iGPU for Rocket Lake leaving room on die for ten cores.

I have one was a nice upgrade from the 7700k that my brother let me use. Only one in stock at the time would have went ryzen but no stock. Not mad at all it’s a tech purchase and you get a very limited time with it before something new and improved comes out.

And what makes you say that?

Actually they hold their own pretty well in gaming, among the top 5 processors in gaming as a matter of fact for the 10850KA, and readily available too (unlike the competition), sure, this specific variant, the Avengers edition is EOL (it was a limited edition to begin with anyway...) but that doesn't make them any less valuable as gaming CPUs, especially when price to performance ratio is taken into consideration.

Z490 is upgrade ready for Rocket lake, and PCIE4.0 ready, so there's a clear upgrade path for the platform, so idk why these processors are looked down upon.

Intel who? . I can't remember what Intel is. I only remember someone say and I think it's amd saying: stop he's already dead about something called Intel.

More seriously, I have been thinking Intel is EOL them self. I mean amd is 7 nm second gen all ready and Intel takes yet another round of 14 nm with rocket lake. By then Intel is on 10 nm, amd will be on 5 nm with zen 4. Intel is not what they used to be, the leading provider of cpu's any more.

AMD is pretty good.. but I wouldn't count Intel out yet. Sure they are in a bad stretch.. but so was AMD. I think some are too quick to judge.. The last time AMD stole Intel's thunder for an extended period like this.. the people at Intel became properly motivated, and it took AMD a decade to recover. Right now AMD is properly motivated, but for how long? None of us are employed by Intel or AMD, so we are in no position to predict the future.

Will Ryzen be the next Toledo?

These should have never existed in the first place. It's a waste of time and money to develop a box design and marketing plan when the actual product is still stuck on last decade's 14 nm process. I can't help but wonder if this was a move out of pure arrogance (thinking that a stupid box would increase sales), or one that of desperation (admitting that they can't develop anything better, so they might as well spend their remaining R&D resources on a box).
