Hello friends,

I have a internal LG Blueray drive (WH16NS40). That won't read cd's and gives an error message when I try to access the drive. Please see the picture:
Capture.PNG

As you can see it also shows up as some funky amd-raid thing in device manager. When I try to uninstall it, windows just reinstalls it with the same driver (cdrom.sys) with the same description. There don't seem to be any drivers out there that I can download. Could anyone help me figure out what's going on?

Thanks!

Is this on your i7 970 system? AMD RAID array implies its set into a RAID array on an AMD sata port, and you could just remove it from the RAID array to get it back to normal

I've never seen or heard of what happens when you stick an optical drive in RAID, but this seems plausible

This is on a new build with a ASUS Prime X570-P. I checked the BIOS and all raid options are turned off, and it shows the device correctly in there. Perhaps I just need to reinstall the chipset drivers. Sure is strange though huh?

If I can't fix it through software I'll try swapping sata ports. There is a firmware update available for the drive too, so I can try putting it in another computer and updating the firmware. The computer is just so stinking heavy I don't feel like picking it up again haha!

firmware updates, reinstall chipset driver, change SATA Port, and manually change the driver in device manager?

I mean its a BD drive, it cant be so old that it's unsupported.

Haha yea, the latest firmware update was released on the 21st of this month! I'm thinking that might do the trick.

Wonder if it's safe to flash it while in a mini windows 10 on usb environment. /hmm

I'll edit this post when I find the fix.

Set SATA to regular in the BIOS and remove all RAID crap from the system.

LG WH16NS40 is a cheap Blu-Ray drive with a high rate of DOA.

Try another SATA cable and several discs.. if it won't detect anything, RMA it or buy another drive.

If you get it to work, you should revert to firmware 1.02 as LG removed support for UHD media in 1.03 and newer.

Iiiinteresting! I was wondering if a firmware update would nerf something. Thank you for that information.

Update:

Holy cow it was AMD StoreMI that doing it! I had that set up between my WD Green HDD and my 16GB Optane for kicks.

Wowwwww I threw everything at up to that point. After I uninstalled StoreMI and restarted it immediately started working.

Thank you for all the help, friends.
