I updated the BIOS of my ASUS motherboard and it does not provide video

I tried to update my Asus B450M Gaming (with Ryzen 5 3400G) and after updating, the screen goes black and does nothing else.

I also tried the sequence 1) shorting the CLRTC pins, 2) removing CMOS battery, 3) Rebooting when USB with previous BIOS 2203 connected. But nothing happened.

I am desperate :(

The updated BIOS version was 2409

Exactly which B450 Gaming?

Asus B450M Prime Gaming

If you updated to the latest Bios you cannot use a 3400G now.
It must be a 3 series or newer, but not the G.

Looking though all the BIOS updates, none of them say that. My guess is something went wrong with the flash.

When you had the usb with the old BIOS, did you simply try to power on the computer with the usb plugged in, or is there a method of BIOS flashback you were trying?

Ok you keep guessing then, that should fix it.

Try the old CPU

1. Reflash the old Bios properly
it won't re flash itself
or Upgrade to a CPU that is Supported By the Bios

(AMD removed Bios support for some CPU's due to adding Support to newer Cpu's and Bios Size limitations)

Once again, none of the BIOS state that there was any removal of cpu support. The only thing that was removed was "Gen 4" support when running Ryzen 3000 CPUs. So far we have Zen, Zen +, Zen 2, and Zen 3 architecture for the Ryzen CPUs, and which the series made avail retail to public are 1000, 2000, 3000, and now 5000. The 4000 series is only for SI's. So where is everyone getting that he lost support for his CPU? And, yes I know that there are going to be BIOS' for the 400 chipsets that once flashed will drop support for older CPUs and cannot be flashed back , but that board doesn't have one.

They cut out support for old CPU’s to make room for new CPU’s. My understanding is that there isn’t enough room on those old chips to hold data tables for all CPU’s. It’s the reason why I didn’t buy a b450

This is true, but has not happened on all B450 motherboards (yet?). If you look at bios # 2406 for this B450, you will see that they did in fact remove that support for older CPUS, but if you look through all the BIOS' for his B450, you don't see anything mentioning that. So either he had a bad flash, or somehow flashed a BIOS for another board, which means if there is a BIOS flashback option for him, he would have to try that, otherwise yes, the board might be toast.

I’m surprised software locks aren’t in use to prevent cross flashing. It seems silly to still be able to lose a board over a little bit of code. My board is running bios 1401, I installed it the day it was listed.. they pulled that bios from their site 2 days after I installed it. Not very confidence inspiring.. lol

They usually do have some manner of protecting against flashing the wrong BIOS when it comes to different boards. So either he had a corrupted download, or something happened during his flash that worked it.

Not on Asus at least. Those tools do not warn you of this issue. You flash the wrong bios and you are hosed. Been there done that.

For the x570 Tuf board that this happened to me on, the 1xxx bios was the last to support Ryzen 1. If ya flashed the 2xxx or 3xxx bios, upon final boot you'd get a black screen and a red cpu light. It looks bricked but isn't. Luckily I had access to newer cpus to keep going. Also, be aware that you'd have to format a usb drive in fat32 to get it to flash back in the case that your board doesn't have the flashback capability.

Sorry to hear that.

I checked the BIOS page and CPU/Memory Support page and clicked your CPU there which took me to the latest BIOS - 2409 as well. So it is safe to assume that this is not a removed support issue.

Something looks to have gone wrong with flashing of the BIOS indeed and I hope their article here could be useful in some way (I know you're getting a black screen not an error mesage).
