Looks cool, until you look at the top of your sweet new 4000D build and see:

Covered with a cheap magnetic mesh filter.

Hopefully they put something that looks good on the top of the case, and it doesn't look like the far side of my AC condenser.

On the D and D airflow, the top panel looks like the front panel. And is removable. On the 5000X it's a piece of glass, like on 570X.

IMHO, the only things these cases have going for them are the USB-C port and the cable clutter hider thingy..

Otherwise, just moar of the same ole same same lame lame rectangular boxen of yesteryear....

They should bring back the C70 and 500R cases. Those were the best they ever made.

Honestly the 4000D Airflow is better than the 500R in every way. And I was the PM and designer of 500R.

PSU cover, refined design, better cooling, easier cable routing, more AIO capability, and $70 cheaper than 500R.

Only thing the 500R has on 4000D Airflow is more hard drive space for 3.5" drives, 8 slots instead of 7, and a firewire port (lol 2010).

Unless you need 5.25" drive bays, I can't see why 500R would be your choice in 2021 over the 4000D Airflow really.

For A/V production I still use optical and hard disk drives. With the 500R I can remove the top panel and mount a 240mm AIO radiator externally. I'm not a fan of tempered glass side panels. I like being able to mount two Silverstone 140mm FHP141's running at full speed (171 cfm each) in the side panel for maximum airflow into the case. If the C70 had the popout top panel the 500R does it'd be my favorite case.

I was getting both for $59-69 dollars each after rebate from Newegg back in the day. The 500R was the first case I didn't have to take the Dremel or plasma cutter to in order to configure it like I wanted it. My days of carving up cases for cooling fans & radiators ended when the 500R came out. I used them for countless customer builds. The latching side panels and carrying handles on the C70 were great. I'm old and prefer function over form. My PC's are work tools so RGB and other nonsense means nothing to me. This picture is from 2014, everything but the mobo, AIO fans, audio card and optical drives have since been replaced with newer and better components but for my needs it's the perfect A/V production PC. I'd love to get another white 500R case for my Xeon E5 2683 V4 build.
