ASRock looks to expand its Mini-PC lineup with the NUC BOX-1165G7. This barebones system sports a 4-core, 8-thread Intel Tiger Lake 10nm CPU. Add Intel's Iris Xe Graphics, which is a step up from previous designs, and you have the basis for a small but powerful system for various niche markets.

Seems like Xe architecture (or drivers) are well optimized for 3Dmark, but not so much for gaming. Still, impressive for what it is. Would still pick the 4800U.

4 TB4 controllers in the die of the CPU itself. Four. Not a single one gets exposed for use. This better be practically cheaper than the NUCs straight from Intel. At least those come with two TB3 ports (so still gimping the USB4+TB4 controllers on the die, but not as poorly).

Exactly. TB3 / TB4 would allow for an eGPU in the future, along with a ton of other expansion options. Really critical feature for this type of unit as well as in modern laptops, completely missing on this thing. Disagree with the rating. I can get a laptop with Tiger Lake + TB4 for about what this costs once configured.

Yeah, Ice and Tiger Lake have improved a lot in IGP performance, while Renoir has improved mostly in CPU performance. It remains to be seen what Cezanne will bring.
Tiger Lake seems pretty good, but it needs more CPU cores badly.

It's insane what kind of performance a 15 W CPU can bring today. Not many years ago they were limited to two cores, and now it's eight.
I didn't even think eight cores would make sense when running at only 15 W, guess I was wrong.

Benchmark Scores Nyooom.
Check if the 8GB memory modules are single rank, the extra ranks on the 16GB sticks used in the 32GB test could explain the performance difference - zen 3 works the same way

(the equivalent to running 4x8GB single rank in a 4 slot system)

I am really glad that modern 4K TV sets are also SMART TV. Frankly, I prefer to use Vizio or Roku SMART systems for content delivery.

If I wanna run games on a TV, I'm using a full fledged PC...

I am not against putting my Area 51 right next to my 80" TV and using it as a media PC.

The only thing I'd do differently is add a Wireless Keyboard and Mouse for my coffee table.

Providing drivers on a disk, while providing no optical unit is a nice touch :wtf:

For those wanting a eGPU setup, this doesn't seem to have extra m.2 2280 slot either. Or SATA port so I can use the 2280 as eGPU. So this is REALLY similar to a laptop without BS Bios blacklisting, and only way to run clean windows install into eGPU is install windows on 2280 SSD, and then connect it to USB interfacer and connect GPU to 2280. In this case I really wonder how this compares with say, a 8750H system from AliExpress which is decently priced for 6 core and black model with 2 m.2 port, with spare TB solder point that may be able to work with bit of solder magic?
This system seems like a iris xe showcase I suppose. That heatsink is just...

The USB-C ports seem to be talking Thunderbolt. You may have some success with those.
