LoL! Prove that! Especially for:

There is many laptops with soldered RAM + free slot. There offers with 4GB soldered +16GB on slot...or other combinations.

He isn't wrong. In those configs, "looking at you Asus laptops", the system will run in dual channel for the 8GB. If an app asks for more than the 8GB, the system will run in single channel speeds.

Do the research, you'll see.

Maybe he isn't wrong. But is VRAM when double sided work identically as dual channel DDR device?

If the spec are true. I'm in.

But what does it matter. Amd gpu and cpu together with nvidia ampere and even intels 10 gen cpu for while. All in shortage and hard to get. These past launcheds has been a huge mess. Way to few gpu's available and way to high demand = over pricing.

Scalpers selling cards for twice or triple the msrp, miners happely paying scalpers as bitcoin is now so high that its still a money maker and some gamers support scalpers as well. Just generally to low capacity for chip making. Even car manufacturers can't get enough chips for making cars.

So all in all when rtx 3080 ti is finally coming. It will be just another new card scalpers will sell to overprice, miners will get the rest scalpers might overlook. And we poor gamers can just sit back watching the cards selling out in seconds after release.

Unfortunately, I see no end to the mining craze, simply because there's no end to cryptocurrencies.
First there was BTC, then LTC, then Doge, then Ethereum...
Now even the Indian government is planning to ban BTC trading and launch its own currency, LaxmiCoin.
Why would the mining craze end if there's no end to new crypto?

If their crypto is anything like the mess of wires around their cities I expect their crypto to fold shortly.

Regardless of whether you love or hate Nvidia, and this card.
The Pr calamity that's been the ti hype train can't possibly be doing their image any favours.
I mean can't Huang put a pin in a thing n call it done.
Especially considering the GPU drought in some regions.

NVIDIA is a victim of their own success.
This is how the release chain operates and always has, they can't just make changes at the last minute(month, 6 months, whatever).
They should have postponed 3000 series on account of the coronavirus, but guess what, can't do that either due to competition from AMD.

LOL 2GB + some extra TMU/ROP for $300 rrp, probably $600+ retail. This is a $100 max upgrade IMO, not that it'll matter one bit as they will be unobtainable other than for scalpers and bitcoin losers. These will be well over $3K in Australia. Tough tits, I already grabbed a 2080 super at huge discount and will skip this generation from AMD and Nvidia altogether.

Wow 12GB only? lol
I guess this ain't a high end GPU anymore. Should compete with the upcoming Radeon 6700XT with its 12GB. Not a dollar over $399usd.

"Only" 12 GB, you say

Also, ain't no way in hell this card should or will compete with the 6700XT, and certainly won't be a dollar over $399USD. The Ti cards have always been THE card in Nvidia's chain of command -- except in concerns to the 1660 Ti, which was more or less cannibalized by the 1660 Super -- so expect this, if it even releases, to start at $800 at least.

Don't know what you're smokin' but I want some of it! :D:pimp:

On the proshop store, the 3090 has not been delivered to the customer from October. That is according to their site because they wish to be transparent. I'm talking here about TUF and Eagle.
And I don't see 3090 being bought in masses. Fairly modest interest non like 3080 but these are just not available.

One thing getting something released for $999, but as we already know if that's the price of the new 3080 Ti we can easily add 50 or more % to that MSRP.
I doubt NV will release it at anything near $800. $999 is more a wishful thinking though.

If we look at the Steam Hardware survey, that is indeed not a perfect source, but still a very good one, and only take into account the Next Gen cards,

Those are the results, the Cut off is at 0.15% of the pc. bellow that, they aren't in the chart.
Source : https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/videocard/
AMD GPU making the cut
- none
Nvidia GPU making the cut
- 3090 - 0,23%
- 3060 Ti - 0,27%
- 3080 - 0,66%

So there is more gamers using Steam that have a 3090 than any AMD card right now by a significant margin. There are more 3090 than there is 3070.

the 3090 is frequently in stock at Newegg. i could have got probably a dozens but i was shopping for a different cards. Yeah they were overprice, some up to 3000$ CAN. but they got sold.

What is interesting about the steam survey, is it would contain gamers and moderate miners, full time miners wouldn't bother running steam at all. So Nvidia have probably sold more cards to gamers than AMD. (but they still had 2 more month to do it, or 33% more time)

According to Steam, Nvidia are still selling five 1650-series products for every 3080 in the last couple of months.

Worse than that, the 1050-series which have been out of production for two years are still gaining marketshare faster than the entire Ampere family combined. People are so desperate for a working GPU they're buying crap 1050Ti laptops that were so unattractively priced that they've been sat on the shelf for 18+ months, awaiting the right balance of gullible/desperate/ignorant customer to come along and pick it up.

Why is it always AMD vs Nvidia why is it always gamers only? Steam is some sort of representative but not a good one. I've got 6900xt and I use steam and yet it is not reflected in there. Percentage is not the best representation of data. If you want to have a good representation you should look at shops that sell them. Like I did. Of course this one is limited to some countries but still. No wonder 3090 is in stock considering its price. Its $1k more than a 6900XT and the AMD product is in stock as well. How do you think I got mine? NV released cards earlier. Like you say. Two more months is quite a bit. Anyway, shortage is a shortage and whats in the news now is not promising. We will have shortages for a longer time this year and who knows what's gonna happen later this year. It may get worse.

I got a 6800 in December but i wouldn't say this card was in stock. I had to buy it in a 15 minutes time frame or i might had to wait few days to get it (and also it got more expensive after).

But when i was trying to get one, i did check the Nvidia cards and i could had almost every day a 3090. Where it took me 2 week and a half of refreshing the page to get the 6800. Like i said, it was many different model of 3090, not just the same card not selling. But for each cards, you had around few hours to buy it instead of few minutes.

My point on the AMD vs Nvidia was just to show that Nvidia is selling 3080 and 3090 like cake and have no need for a 3080 Ti no matter what AMD does. Also note these data was taken early January. We will see if there are change in February. Also the steam hardware is a Survey, not an inventory. It survey a certain amount of member each month and extrapolate the data from it. You can't say your card purchase wasn't reflected there, first, what is 1 guy in a pool of millions of player and secondly, that is not how survey work.

If there was enough people like you that were able to buy a 6900XT early january to have more than 0,15%, we would see it. Maybe in february. but right now, that is not the case. Nvidia was able to sell way more cards than AMD. (but they also got released 3 month earlier).

I don't doubt that December was hard with stock and it is not better now. I got my card less than a week ago.
My point is that NV is not selling 3080 and 3090 like cakes because the availability is very poor for end consumers.
It is obvious that buying an entire system from a vendor with the graphics card is easier than just the graphics.
Either way the availability is shit no matter how you look at it.
Early January? 6900 XT was released in December 9th (if I recall correctly) and I could get it already in January. 3090 was release weeks before 6900xt and people are still waiting for the card to be delivered from October's orders. So if you want to include availability of a product take a closer look at the release dates of the product and how many actually received it. Sell like cakes here makes no sense.

The Steam Survey is one of the worst representations of who owns what and how many. Even if their were more Radeon's on Steam, it wouldn't change the fact its a bad representation.

Considering that every PC in an asian gaming parlor gets counted many many times in Steam's hardware survey, it's an inherently flawed measurement system. It also doesn't distinguish between me playing 15 year old titles and lightweight independent games on my wimpy old laptop when I'm traveling versus me playing the latest AAA titles on my desktop gaming PC at home. Considering how much of the PC market is represented by laptops these days, that's a significant skew of the data set, as well.

At any rate, let's hope that NVidia and Samsung can deliver enough Ampere GPUs for this new card to actually appear on shelves at retailers instead of going directly to mining farms and e-bay scalpers.
