New thermal pads in, they were too thick at first so i gave em the old FUCK YOU SQUISH and then they fit just fiiiine

It's like these memory chips just keep ramping themselves up and never give up on their goal of running at 100C at all times under load

GPU: 55C
TJunction: 94C

What load though, mining or gaming?

mining - gamings fine. I wanted to be able to mine without the fan screeching, it auto ramps up when the Tjunction passes 100C

The pads have settled in, and i sit at 92C while mining in "low" mode
When it goes to high, the heat builds up and it eventually needs the fan to go overboard... i need bigger heatsinks on the backplate for high end mining since the fan only cools the FRONT of the card and doesnt alter the temps of these back memory chips...

Oh god i qualify for cheaper electricity due to a medical condition

They're subsidising my mining

It was very high to begin with here in the Philippines. I bought my 3080 last December for 1.1k USD as an impulse.

The 3080 already paid itself off at this point. Now I'm thinking about getting additional cards for mining and its all effed-up. A 3080 now costs 1.8k USD for a GB Eagle.

You woildnt be surprized about it. A 3080 nets more than what you would get working a minimum wage job with the current crypto prices.

Well if Ethereum hard forking to proof of stake in April, I doubt paying 1700usd for a 3080 can pay itself anytime soon. Miners flooding to other alt coins would just make them unprofitable very soon.
Let hope GPU prices come back to normal again soon :D.

3080 is currently in at .77% of all GPU in steam hardware survey, that and Steam active players is estimated to be around 120mil in 2021, meaning >900K units are sitting inside player's computers even with the mining craze going on.
Yeah "stock issue" :kookoo:
Nvidia probably produced more 3080 stock than all AMD's 6800, 6800XT and 6900XT combined.

I just joined the club today. Got a watercooled 3090 and I'm in the process of figuring it out. This reported memory temp seems to be always the hottest chip yeah? It reached ~74°C and the backplate is getting really warm, pointed a fan on the back to cool the backside chips and it dropped to ~70°C. I wonder if I void my warranty by sticking some heatsinks to it.

That warranty sticker they always use on the screwholes... I get around that with a hobby knife.

You're most likely using a gigabyte 3090. They dont put thermal pads on the back of the chips or they use crappy ones. You can change them but if you're just gaming, 70C is good.

I might talking out of my ass , but why not get ride of back plate all together and try to blow some air directly on hot area with extra fan? Mod version ,replace back plate with mesh plate of similar size ,add some spacers /washers then you could mount fan directly to mesh plate .Idk ,just bored.Cheers.

Sadly its Germany and things are pretty strict. Some manufacturers like EVGA are very kind and accept tinkering with stuff to some degree but most just completly refuse the RMA if there is a seal or sticker broken. I will try to just glue something to the existing backplate.

Yeah I face a similar issue, I need my backplate to hold the waterblock on tight. I know these OEM blocks can be very tricky with getting the correct mounting pressure. Had this issue with my 2080, don't need it again.

I'll try some things, I got a few heatsinks flying around from scrapped TV pcbs. If you find something that works decent, please share.

If you are only gaming then there is no need to cool the backplate, 74C Tjunction is a very good temperature already, stock 3080FE and 3090FE can reach like 90C-100C Tjunction.
You can increase the radiator fans speed and it would lower VRAM Tjunction along with GPU temp too.
Overall just enjoy your 3090, there is no need to do anything else beside playing games :D

What block are you using? My watercooled (bykski) 3090 memory junction temp maxes out around 75c ish after a four hour+ session. It's been rainy here so nothing to do but game I guess.

Its even lower in games but I have not reached 100% load in games yet. I play at 1440p and I think the most stressful game I play at the moment would be Star Citizen.

It got to 74°C tops with mining (daggerhashimoto). My radiator fans don't need to be cranked, I use a MoRa 360 in push/pull with 8x 180mm fans. It has its own loop, I got three separate loops now for my CPU, my 2080 and the 3090.
And yes, these temps are fine but I'm the kind of guy who chases every improvement possible for hardware even if it makes no sense at all.

Which is why I did this:

I placed some heatsinks on the spots where it does not create clearance issues. Glue is your typical thermal silicone stuff which I found works well enough and has a very nice and strong bond while not leaving residue when you remove it.

I'm letting it set at the moment, will update later if it changed my thermals at all.

EDIT: Dropped the memory mining load temp by ~2°C to 68°C. Backplate feels noticably cooler to the touch. I know direct contact heatsinks would improve things a lot more, but I don't want to void my warranty yet.
Comparing this to regular air cooled models and some of the other watercooled ones I'm happy. Seems to be a very healthy temperature.

I got the inno3D Frostbite card, comes with a block made by alphacool. Once it runs out of warranty I will probably replace it with a block from watercool or aquacomputer.
