ARCTIC Introduces New MX-5 Thermal Compound

ARCTIC, one of the leading manufacturers of low-noise PC coolers and components, officially launches its MX-5 thermal paste today. The newly developed, high-performance paste comes with an ideal set of thermal properties, guaranteeing reliable heat dissipation over long periods of time. ARCTIC MX-5 is available now in variants ranging from 2 to 50 grams, with and without a spatula.

Like all thermal pastes from ARCTIC, MX-5 is completely metal-free. Because MX-5 is neither conductive nor capacitive, it is particularly safe to use: the possibility of short circuits, corrosion damage or discharges is eliminated.

Regardless of the application method, applying MX-5 is very easy thanks to its low viscosity. The paste can be evenly distributed across the CPU in an extremely thin film via contact pressure from the heat sink. Combined with high thermal conductivity, this results in very low thermal resistance, which can contribute to improved service life and processor performance

MX-5 uses carbon microparticles as a filler to smooth out small imperfections on heatsinks and heatspreaders, improving heat transfer from the component to the heat sink. It is suitable for use on all CPUs and GPUs, whether they are in PCs, laptops or consoles. MX-5 is also recommended for integrated circuits with high waste heat and for power semiconductor devices.

Availability
The MX-5 is available now at Amazon with a starting price of $5.89 USD.

Got some recently but haven't used it. The only thing I've noticed is that it has a slight blueish tinge to it.

MX-4 is already my favourite, so I'll grab a 8g syringe of this on the next time when I buy thermal paste.

I'm not paying that much premium for a 1-2C difference. A 4g syringe of MX-5 costs the same as 1g of Kryonaut. Also as I benchmark often old hardware, I use a lot of thermal paste.

For bulk orders until recently I was still using a tube of mx-2.

For my personal rig I use kryonaut but I totally get that it's a big time diminishing returns thing.

I've had good experiences with MX-4 (aside from my 20g syringe of the stuff separating, which was weird), so when I heard about the MX-5, I had to get some.

I've been using a 30g tube of PK3 for the last five years but I grabbed the 4g tube of MX5 cuz it was only $6, why the hell not. I like the lower viscosity but it's not hard softening the PK3 up with some hot water. They need to publish the thermal conductivity on the MX5 though! MX4 was only 8.5w/m, so MX5 is how much better...?

All these years later and we still don't have a standardized testing/rating system for thermal pastes.

Everything is still 100% he-say/she-say opinions that don't mean anything. You could label toothpaste as a thermal compound and someone on the internet will swear by it.

I'll get some the next time I have to buy TIM and give it a real test.
MX-4 has always got the job done for me and I would expect nothing less from this but we'll see once I get a tube.

Thermal Conductivity?
Likely very high. This is a press release. Arctic likely didn't think people would ask for that metric as review sites would likely test it anyway and disclose such after testing.

@W1zzard
If you and the review staff have the time, a comparison of TIMs would make for a very interesting article.
