They must have had a plan of reaction for something like this. If it can happen it will sooner or later.

Combine those thoughts and put the unemployed to good use with a shovel widening the canal, or pulling on ropes attached to the ships to save on fuel.

This is a man made problem. If you want a ship of that size to go through, they should have considered accidents like this to happen. At this point, they will need quite a few tug boats to try and straighten the ship and tug it away if the engine is not working.

They also have port and starboard thrust engines to assist with tight manoeuvres.

My money's not on the crew, but on the on-shore operating personnel.

I've got some bad news for you: Container ships are one of the most efficient and "green" methods of transportation per ton. The problem is that they're shipping SO MUCH STUFF.

To reduce emissions, you need to stop the built-in-obsolescence and disposable product culture that continually demands replacement of short-lived, cheap manufactured products from China. Electronics are some of the worst offenders for this. You might use a car that's 30 years old, but would you replace your 3700X for a 486 DX2-66 from 1994?
