The AMD Zen 3 architecture provided significant performance improvements with the company releasing server, desktop, and mobile processors featuring the architecture. AMD is yet to update their Threadripper lineup with the new architecture however that looks set to change with the company reportedly preparing to announce the next generation "Chagall" Threadripper 5000 processors in August. The Threadripper family is in dire need of a refresh with the latest 3000 series processors being launched back in November 2019. The new processors should be compatible with existing TRX40 motherboards with a simple BIOS update.

Let's hope at least this doesn't mean they repeat the Threadripper/Threadripper Pro split again, with the real workstation line being initially OEM-only and arriving much later.

And please, start the lineup on 12 cores again.

Anyway, I've yet to see Threadripper 3000 in stock, and considering how scarce Ryzen 5000 is, this doesn't bode well for Threadripper 5000 availability.

At least for me locally I see Threadripper in stock much more often then the 5950X, and crazy enough they are often on sale.
I agree that they should make lower core count TR again, especially when there is actually a 16-core Threadripper Pro for $1149.
It makes no sense that the HEDT TR starts at a higher core count and price point ($1400) then the Pro counterparts.
Adding insult to injury, X399 users like myself were completely left to dry when TR 3000 launched.

Yep. I'm hesitant to jump into 5000 series TR parts when DDR5 is around the corner, and we'd likely see a chipset refresh again.

Perhaps it depends on where you look With respect to Threadripper 3000 and what RyZen 5000 series processor you’re looking for.

For some time now I’ve seen noteworthy stock of RyZen 5600X and 5800X from the likes of Microcenter and a few other location. SOL for RyZen 5950X and 5900X though Because I’ve seen no credible sources. Threadripper 3000 stock seems to be available at Microcenter too.

This makes total business sense. There is a shortage of CPUs to use, so why update a product line where you already hold the lead?

TR 3000 has been readily available since launch. Only the 3990 (probably because it's $5000 CAD) seems to be a special order item at most sites.

So if it's true that existing boards will work with it, does that mean there won't be any PCIE 5.0 support or DDR5 support?

Probably not on Zen 3, cos Zen 3.
Will need to wait for Zen 4 for those features as per roadmaps shared in the long long ago.

Thanks. Then what is the value of the next gen? Potentially options from what I hear with less cores and maybe faster speeds? And maybe more TDP to worry about? At a crossroads right now. To build a new system yet or not to build a new system yet.

August announcement with October/November stock and soon after new gen 4 cpu with ddr5? No thanks. These should've released alongside series 5000 or soon after.

What is the benefit of Ryzen 5000 over Ryzen 3000.

Chagall? For a threadripper? Is the next gen TR going to be an APU? NOT Genesis Peak?

I have to say that this smells of a rotten source.

MEBBE an announcement from SU at Computex... However, all signs are pointing to an issue for HPC and HEDT CPUs at 7nm. A WAG is can't hit clocks for those two class CPUs.
