MSI Introduces the Optix MAG342CQ Monitor: 34" VA, UWQHD, 1500R, 144 Hz, 1 ms, Adaptive Sync

MSI has announced another entry into their Optix MAG monitor lineup. The MAG342CQ makes use of a big, 34" VA panel with UWQHD resolution (3440 x 1440) that offers up appealing specs for a gamer: 144 Hz refresh rate paired with a (rated) 1 ms response time and a comfortable, not too aggressive 1500R curvature. The inclusion of Adaptive Sync (which means support for variable refresh rate technologies) helps add to its gaming pedigree.

Brightness however takes quite a dive o this particular panel, as its typical luminance apparently sits at a mere 250 nits. Despite that, the VA panel enables a contrast ratio of 3000:1, with good color coverage (DCI-P3 89.48% / sRGB 112.2%). I/O is assured by 2x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort 1.2 and 1x earphone jack x1. No time to market or MSRP was available at time of writing.

I have a 4k monitor since 2014, Samsung 28 https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/samsung/ue590 and very happy so far, 60hz, lately it has been difficulty to turn its upper dimming light on, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, I already can see that I will need to replace it in a year or so and nothing below 4k, hdmi 2.1 is a must and price can be around 2k, 120hz or 144hz is a must too, been eyeing these new monitors that ar4e coming with micro-leds.

I really loathe the stands on a lot of the "gaming" monitors. Why do they have to have three thin legs sticking out like this? It just takes up a lot of space and it doesn't make the monitor more sturdy.

I prefer these types of stands than something of let's say the viewsonic elite. The asus stands look god awful, but now im more into monitor arms so thats not really a concern anymore.

I prefer something simple square or round, that you know, actually supports the monitor and isn't 30-40cm tip to tip.

Right there with you. Display bases need to be substantial to not only support the screen itself but also be robust enough to take some minor abuse..

I've got a 4K since your time as well. First was the LG 27 60Hz. Loved it. Now I've moved to 4K 144Hz LG 27GN950. I really adore that monitor. I wanted to get a 3440x1440 screen since the 4k high refresh is really hard to get nowadays with all the shortages. Good that this MSI has a subtle curve not like the G9 Samsung. Either way I'm not a fan of panoramic monitors. I had to get the flat one at 4K.

BTW. this one is a new release but still companies are scares to use HDMI 2.1.
