For the third time...electric cars. Look at Tesla's new roadster...200 some miles on a charge, charges in like 30 minutes over a 240 v line. Just think what future batteries could do. Plus with hydrogen you would need to upgrade the electric grid and add power plants anyways....don't see why not electric cars...

If we are talking for nowadays cars and technologies , then like it was said the best way is nuclear power + high capacity batteries. At some point in the future hydrogen will be operational for use.
Space traveling and achieving speed of light is another (future) kind of transportation. You know : to speed up a single 100 tonne spaceship to the speed of light won't be possible with fossil energy, even if we have to burn all of it in 100% efficacy for both process - extracting and storing.
Accelerating a 100 -ton payload to 90 percent of the speed of light requires an energy of at least 3000 billion tons of TNT.

And wtf "just 400 more nuclear powerplants" how is that a good idea? >_>

...because it would completely free America from dependence on fossil fuels? Someone please tell me why that isn't a good idea.

There are plenty of mountains, and mountain ranges out there.

Burying radioactive waste below mountain ranges beats burning petroleum products and releasing their byproducts into the atmosphere that we breathe every day.

Ah, but mountain-based nuclear-waste storage will be irrelevant in about 100 years, once a viable space-dumping program has been created.

So Iran is doing the world a favour by developing nuclear power?

Of course, whichever nation develops such reactors can easily make the weapons if necessary.
Don't be stupid. Nowadays uranium or plutonium nuclear weapon is a short range tactical weapon. The ones you should be really afraid of are H-bombs (thermonuclear bombs), thousand times more powerful than fission bombs with major component hydrogen isotope extracted from sea water. So you may start looking around for countries with seawater extracting facilities.
