NOLF is notorious for throwing up errors and in fact I'm still struggling to get it working on Windows 10.
I managed to get it to run under DGVoodoo2 but with weird graphics where the weapons were all white for example.
I also discovered that the USB dongle for my wireless headphones prevented the game from even starting, so I had to remove it.
NOLF 1 Moderniser is supposed to fix numerous issues, but still no luck my end with just a black screen, but at least I got past the MFC Application error :)

Excellent choice of games!

To link some mainstream articles on the subject:

I run the 'NOLF Revival' downloads covered in the first article (and own legit boxed copies), and they run really well under Win10. There may be timing issues for some animations, which can sometimes be fixed by setting screen refresh to 60hz and playing with VSYNC etc, or limiting FPS to 60.

Best of luck to you Sir! o7

P.S. The OP linked the NOLF modernizer, and there's a NOLF 2 version as well. Both are designed for vanilla patched NOLF games, but may be useful with NOLF Revival versions as well.

After a lot of fiddling about, I finally managed to get the game working through dgVoodoo and setting the output to D3D12 as per this note in the readme section of Dege's page.
dgvoodoo-config.png
Altough dgVoodoo is configurable (see below), its default configuration is recommended for first try because this configuration is the one that provides the circumstances the games were designed for. The only sad exception is if you have an AMD videocard: select D3D12 as output API to avoid possible solid colored polygons (known issue with AMD+D3D11 combo). See the readme for more.

The Moderniser patch also helps with cutscenes audio where dialogue gets cut off. By limiting FPS to 60, which you can now do in-game, that issue is fixed.
There are also loads of other options available, so it's worth playing with them. Runs perfectly for me now.

I can confirm that the binaries from nolfrevival.tk plus the NOLF Modernizer patch work quite well particularly on a 1080p display.

Using larger resolution screens (like 1440p and 2160p) aren't as good since the UI elements get really small.

I also consulted the PCgamingwiki page.

If you want cheats, don't use a trainer. There are text cheat codes here:

This game is very well written and I wish more games published today had a similar sense of humor.

I love the intro in Nolf 1...
When Cate and Bruno meet The Chief and Mr Smith, poor Smithy simply doesn't get their double entendres and his chauvinist put-downs of Cate are simply water off a duck's back. Great intro!

Started NOLF1 and played the first mission, gonna continue after I've had a nap. Absolutely going to finish this (and 2 after this) as this feels like a great game!

I replayed them recently and they certainly are awesome games that have more "character" underneath their fingernails than a lot of worn-out over-sequelled AAA franchises of today do in their souls. I've had zero problem running them with the NOLF Modernizer patches. The only issue for W10 is that VSync tends to no longer work reliably for DirectX7-8 games the way it did on W7 due to changes made in Windows DWM, but since you need to cap these games to 60fps (physics reasons), you may simply need to frame-rate cap them externally (in your GPU driver or using Rivatuner). Have fun!

Yeah, there's some stuttering but not that annoying. Otherwise runs perfectly in FullHD :)

I think I had an Athlon XP 1800, possibly with a Geforce 3. Didn't it come out in the same years as XP?

I remember playing the first one! I think it came bundled with my video card, a PNY Geforce 4 Ti 4400. Loved the 60's vibe and was big into Austin Powers at the time as well.
As for a system, that would be an Athlon XP 1900+ with my Geforce 4 Ti 4400 and all of 384MB of DDR-266 and (3) WD 40GB hard drives in Raid-0

Got my copy of NOLF2 packed away somewhere. Never even played it..... one of my many games I purchased just because I could when I was on my game buying kick some years ago. Perhaps I should dig it out and see if I can get her running.

These are a pair of games I want to see on GOG! Hell yeah!
Looks like Warner Bros could own the rights with their acquisition of Monolith.
Looks like Activision could own the rights with their acquisition of Vivendi.
Looks like 20th Century Fox could own the rights due to publishing and funding it.

Sadly, looks like the game is just lost in limbo. Here's an article that goes into it a bit and what roadblocks others have hit trying to bring the game back.

On a side note, I also have Contract JACK - I played this for a bit, but I found it pretty bland. I didn't put more than a couple of hours into, tucked the game disc back in the box and put the game back into storage. My last and only attempt to play it was 3 or 4 years ago, but it just felt like a crappy FPS (not in terms of graphics, they're clearly dated, but that's not what felt crappy). Perhaps the game has ties to NOLF and I just didn't know because I never played the NOLF games?
