TL;DR. Just wanted to check the following questions:
First things first, yes I know the cooler on these cards are the intel knockoff coolers (72-75C on open air test bench). Picked up a Bykski waterblock that should fit (checked with mfg). Not worried about thermals once it goes on. This will have to hold me over until the next series of cards, due to the GPU shortage everything else considered. Bought before the current crop was released, intending to upgrade, and well, ha ha ha. Race what you brought, right?
Current overclock: Custom curve, max 2115MHz core, memory +915. I regularly run into the TDP limit on the card. I know once I go water, that will get me off the fans, freeing up 10w (on a 132 watt power limit) should free up ~7% more headroom. However, seeing how it throttles under load, I expect there is probably more room beyond the card's existing TDP, even by offloading the fan power.
New to bios flashing on the later gen of GPUs. Read the primer. Doesn't look like these bios are modifiable, got it. Thinking all I need to do is make sure I match the following:
Device ID: 10DE 2184 (does the rest, subsystem ID, not matter?)
Ports: 1xDVI-D, 1x DisplayPort, 1x HDMI
Ram speed (& mfg): GDDR5, Micron
Current Bios Link
Candidate Bios links:
GPU-z for crosschecking my work.
Images of the card and junk, in case someone was curious. Plus, there have only been a few images of teardowns on the card, so figure this will help others in the future.
The board without the junky Intel knockoff cooler.
And last but not least, the VRM's. Waterblock should cover these just fine.
- Am I missing anything?
- Any gotchas with the XC Ultra or the XLR8 Gaming OC bios I should look out for?
- Anyone successfully cross flash a 1660 Tuf bios? I cannot seem to find any confirmations using my googleFu. In fact, the 1660 regular is generally void of confirmed cross flash confirmations.

Candidate Bios links:
EVGA GTX 1660 6 GB (XC Ultra)
- Limit TDP is 160w, probably pushing, if not exceeding the board VRM's (haven't researched/confirmed yet)
- Mixed with the fan offset, nets a 38w (28w+10w) higher limit TDP.
PNY GTX 1660 6 GB (XLR8 Gaming OC)
- Limit TDP is 140w. 8w higher than current bios. Higher default target, but can always go under if I wanted.
- Mixed with the fan offset, gets me 18w more over stock, if I want to remain conservative
EVGA GTX 1660 6 GB (XC)
- Max TDP is a 2 watt drop from stock, so no joy here.
