Lian Li on Monday disclosed that some batches of its Uni Fan SL120 units are affected by defective LEDs. While this defect does not contribute to a safety hazard, it affects quality, and is spread across a fairly big batch. Uni Fan SL120 manufactured between December 2020 and March 2021 are likely to come with a faulty blue LED lighting IC that makes the blue component of the RGB LED deteriorate over time, resulting in dimmer LEDs. When set to white, the RGB LED has a yellowish coloration from the dimmer blue component. The company mentions that units manufactured after March 2021 come with corrections for this issue.

Anyone with Uni Fan SL120 can file for replacements, since they may have thrown away product packaging and may not know their date of manufacture. The replacements can be filed here.

A quick check indicates this product was reviewed in Aug 2020. So Lian Li's response is correct and reasonable. Other than getting it right the first time, this is how quality is meant to be done. Leave the Koala Tea to your competitors!

So buying RGB fans mean having to accept another potential point of failure, and that is the LED itself. I think it is better to stick to good fans like T30 and Noctua NF-A12 with no RGB.

In 4 of my 10 Unifans I have some dodgy LEDs but not too worried about replacements for the SL120s. Going to get some of their Snazzy new ones to replace the whole lot instead.

I have 3 noctua af14 chromax fans who all have buggered fan motors/bearings which wobble/hum.

Can't argue that, but having quality products does not equal having good customer satisfaction when something like this happens.

This sounds like the issue on my G910 keyboard where some of the LED's have started failing by displaying green instead of blue and i've never seen proper white. From the start it has had a blue tint even when i set the LED's to white.

Not sure we've just become more aware of companies doing the right thing (like Lian Li, EVGA, etc) ever since Gigabyte, NZXT and co. made such a mess with their faulty products; or whether manufacturers just have become more honest and upfront with faulty batches etc. to prevent a PR disaster like those two had. Either way, good to see.

I used to have a G910 (still do, just don't use it anymore), and mine was also never able to display a true white. It always had a pretty noticeable blue-ish tint. I didn't have mine displaying green instead of blue though, have you tried reinstalling G Hub just in case it's a software issue?

I'll say it again. Getting it right the first time is expected.

Well the green defect has come with age i think. Every month it seems more keys are starting to show this (currently 11 keys). Oddly enough it only effects light and medium blue. Dark blue and purple are displayed correctly. Firmware is updated but it's not a software issue. Using the keyboard on another computer with clean G HUB install shows the same issue.

It is nice that they do this, hats off to them. However, if they corrected it in march, why it took them over 6 months to come public about it.
